Redskins RB Keith Marshall tore the patella tendon in his right knee on Saturday, according to ESPN's John Keim. That's a brutal injury that could threaten Marshall's career. He already had a lengthy injury history, including a torn ACL in 2013 and an elbow injury that cost him his entire rookie campaign. Already off the redraft radar, Marshall certainly isn't a must-keep in dynasty leagues.

The Redskins have placed RB Keith Marshall on IR. His elbow injury was only expected to sideline him about 3 weeks, so this looks like a case of the team stashing a rookie who simply isn't ready to contribute. Rob Kelley is now locked in as Washington's #2 RB. Starter Matt Jones (shoulder) is expected to be ready for Week 1, but that's not a lock. Kelley is worth rostering in deeper leagues and should be on your waiver-wire watch list.

Redskins RB Keith Marshall is expected to miss at least 3 weeks with the elbow injury suffered in Friday's preseason contest, according to insider Chick Hernandez. The rookie will be re-evaluated at that point, so he might be out even longer. That officially ends Marshall's chances of opening the season as RB Matt Jones' backup. That job will belong to Rob Kelley, who has averaged a solid 4.5 yards per carry this preseason.

Redskins RB Keith Marshall suffered a sprained elbow in Friday night's preseason game, the team announced. It doesn't sound like a serious injury, but Marshall can't afford to miss much time after a disappointing August. He was rotating 1st-team reps with RB Rob Kelley before exiting. RB Matt Jones is out with his shoulder injury and has no clear-cut handcuff right now.

Redskins HC Jay Gruden said Monday that RB Matt Jones is dealing with a "2nd-degree separation" of his AC joint. Gruden didn't provide a timeline for Jones' return but did say he's already made "significant strides" in his recovery. The news has been all positive on Jones since the injury, but Grade 2 shoulder sprains tend to be multi-week injuries. We're not yet considering him a lock for Week 1. Gruden also intimated that Rob Kelley, not Keith Marshall, is next up on the depth chart behind Jones. We're not very interested in either Kelley or Marshall at this point.

The Redskins announced that RB Matt Jones suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder in Friday night's preseason game. The severity of the sprain will determine exactly how long he's out, but consider him week-to-week for now. Jones could be back in time for Week 1, but any missed time is unfortunate for a guy expected to step into the lead role this year. Jones' absence leaves Washington's backfield to Chris Thompson, Keith Marshall and Rob Kelley. Marshall certainly has the most upside of the group but hasn't looked NFL-ready through 2 preseason games.

Matt Jones is the Redskins' "workhorse back," according to the Washington Post's Mike Jones. "At least that's the plan," he adds somewhat ominously. That jibes with basically everything we've heard this offseason. Jones is going to get a shot to establish himself as the clear lead dog. If he struggles with ball security or doesn't improve on last year's 3.4 yards per carry, though, Washington could turn to some combination of Keith Marshall and Chris Thompson. Jones is going in the middle of the 6th round in recent MFL10s.

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan raved about rookie RB Keith Marshall on Monday and called his team's backfield a "2-headed monster." Marshall is "a 1-cut guy, and when he puts his foot in the ground, he can fly," McCloughan said. "And you know, Matt [Jones] is gonna be Matt, and I think Matt's gonna be a really good player for us. But as you know ... it's a 2-headed monster in the backfield." McCloughan later added that it could even be a 3-headed monster, presumably referring to change-of-pace type Chris Thompson. This is the 1st time we've heard from Washington that Marshall could be a threat to Jones' workload. We'll be keeping a close eye on this backfield in preseason action.

Redskins insider Mike Jones left rookie RB Keith Marshall off his latest 53-man roster prediction. Marshall "must get healthy and stay on the field," Jones writes. After an injury-riddled career at Georgia, the 7th-rounder missed time this spring with a hamstring issue. A healthy Marshall is an intriguing prospect, but he's not worth rostering in redraft leagues right now. We'll see if he makes any noise this summer. RB Matt Jones remains the heavy favorite to lead Washington in touches this year.

The Redskins nabbed RB Keith Marshall in the 7th round of the 2016 draft.  A highly touted recruit out of high school, Marshall averaged more yards per carry than Todd Gurley when both guys were freshmen at Georgia in 2012.  He tore his ACL the following year, though, and never got back on track.  But Marshall looked plenty healthy at the Combine when he blazed a 4.31-second 40-yard dash.  There's upside here if he can recapture that pre-injury form.  Despite being a 7th-round pick, Marshall could put heat on RB Matt Jones in Washington.
