Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin will put in some extra work with QB Cam Newton in the 4 weeks leading up to training camp, according to the Charlotte Observer.  Both will reportedly be in Charlotte during that time, and Benjamin specifically mentioned working on timing for fade routes.  Any extra work can only help for a rookie WR and a QB who has spent the offseason working through ankle surgery.  If Benjamin continues to impress in training camp and the preseason the way he did in early minicamps, he could easily climb our 2014 WR rankings.  Benjamin joins a Carolina squad with no clear #1 WR.

Panthers rookie WR Kelvin Benjamin has had just a couple practices with his new team, but he's already impressing beat writers and his coaching staff.  The media was buzzing about a leaping, 1-handed grab Benjamin made in practice.  “He’s everything we thought he would be,” HC Ron Rivera said. “We’re not in pads. But watching his route running, watching him catch the ball, make the adjustments, track the ball -- all those types of things were really good to see.”  A size/speed freak, Benjamin dominating in pad-less workouts is no surprise.  We'll see how he fares when his route-running and coverage-reading ability is put to the test in live action.  If Benjamin can quickly adjust to the pro game, he's capable of emerging as a weekly fantasy starter in 2014.

Panthers 1st-round WR Kelvin Benjamin impressed his new team at this week's 2-day rookie camp, including a 1-handed grab over 2 defenders near the end of the final session.  "That was pretty impressive," HC Ron Rivera said afterward, per ESPN.com.  "He's got the kind of ability you're looking for.''  It's that sheer talent and tremendous size -- 6'5, 240 -- that got Benjamin into the draft's 1st round.  If he can deliver some consistency, he'll quickly turn into the Panthers' #1 WR.  The opportunity gives him obvious immediate fantasy upside, though we'll see if his ADP climbs too high to make him a value come draft time.

Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle) shed his walking boot on Tuesday and declared himself "ready for rehab."  He underwent ankle surgery a little less than 2 months ago and was slapped with a 4-month timetable.  It sounds like he's avoided setbacks so far.  If all goes according to plan, Newton should be ready for the start of training camp.  He needs to be considering he'll be working with a brand new WR corps featuring Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery and Jason Avant.

The Panthers filled a huge need by adding WR Kelvin Benjamin with the 28th pick of the draft.  This is a classic boom-or-bust prospect.  Benjamin didn't break out until his final season at Florida State.  He needs works as a route runner, and his hands are inconsistent.  But Benjamin's monster 6'5, 240-pound frame gives him tons of upside.  And he should immediately step into Carolina's starting lineup.  Benjamin is a threat for 8+ TDs in 2014 -- and he could lead all rookie WRs in fantasy points.
