The Giants have ruled LB B.J. Goodson out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. He wouldn't have been an IDP option if active, but his absence makes it easier to use Giants LB Kelvin Sheppard in fantasy lineups. Sheppard has played 78% of the snaps or more in 4 straight appearances.
The Dolphins will have all 3 of their usual starting LBs active after Jelani Jenkins (ankle), Koa Misi (abdomen) and Kelvin Sheppard (hamstring) entered the weekend questionable. Jenkins looks the most iffy for playing time after sitting out last week. All will bring risk to the game, with Sheppard looking most worth the gamble in your IDP lineup because of his recent production.
All 3 Dolphins starting LBs are questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets. Jelani Jenkins (ankle) looks iffiest after spending Wednesday on the sideline and putting in limited workouts the next 2 days. He missed Week 11. Koa Misi (abdomen) and Kelvin Sheppard (hamstring) each put in limited workouts all 3 days. We'll update all 3 when the Sunday morning inactives come out.
Dolphins LB Koa Misi (abdomen) is active today against the Cowboys. Miami will miss OLB Jelani Jenkins, however. Kelvin Sheppard remains the top IDP option among Dolphins LBs this week.
Dolphins weak-side LB Jelani Jenkins is doubtful for Sunday's game against Dallas because of the left ankle he injured in last week's win at Philly. LB Koa Misi is questionable with an abdominal injury. He sat out Wednesday and Thursday practices before returning to a limited Friday workout. The situation turns LB Kelvin Sheppard into an upside IDP sleeper and can only help the outlook for Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (who's dealing with his own groin injury).
Colts LBs Pat Angerer and Kavell Conner are inactive for Week 1, leaving Jerrell Freeman and Kelvin Sheppard as the starters inside. Freeman's the only guy we like for your IDP lineup.
Buffalo traded ILB Kelvin Sheppard to Indianapolis for OLB Jerry Hughes. Sheppard looks like a depth player for Indy behind some combination of LBs Jerrell Freeman, Pat Angerer and Kavell Conner. His departure creates a starting opportunity for Bills 2nd-round pick Kiko Alonso. The former Oregon Duck looks like an intriguing late-round IDP in 2013 leagues and a high-upside dynasty selection. Hughes, meanwhile, gets a new start after failing to deliver on his 1st-round status with the Colts. He could enter the starting competition under new DC Mike Pettine. Hughes did enjoy his most productive season last year after the Colts switched to a 3-4 scheme from the 4-3 that kept Hughes at DE.
The Bills have signed former Bengals and Niners OLB Manny Lawson. The former 1st-round pick saw very limited use with Cincinnati over the past 2 years. Lawson reportedly told his agent at the end of 2012 that he wanted to get back to a 3-4 defense. The Bills hired former Jets DC Mike Pettine in the same role this year and appear to be planning at least a hybrid scheme with 3-4 and 4-3 elements. Lawson can rush the passer and cover RBs and TEs on pass routes. He looks like a 3-down player for Buffalo and a potential deep fantasy football sleeper for your IDP squad.
MLB Kelvin Sheppard sat out practice Wednesday with what HC Chan Gailey would only call a "medical issue." The coach refused to elaborate. Guess we'll have to wait to see what it is and whether it's significant. Sheppard carries considerable fantasy upside into his first full season as a starter if the team makes him a 3-down player.
Bills HC Chan Gailey announced Monday that rookie ILB Kelvin Sheppard will take over the starting job of Andra Davis. Sheppard made 3 solo tackles each of the past 2 weeks while seeing increased playing time. Davis has just 11 tackles through 6 games but has been far from a full-time player. Sheppard likely won't be close to full-time snaps either, which will limit his fantasy-scoring ability. Perhaps the switch will help Buffalo's run D, though.
