ESPN's Adam Schefter is hearing "some optimism" from the Cowboys regarding RB DeMarco Murray's Week 16 availability.  Bryan Broaddus of Cowboys.com adds that the "early thinking" is that Murray will play against the Colts.  This, of course, comes less than 24 hours after a couple of sources, including VP Stephen Jones, suggested Murray is unlikely to play.  He underwent successful surgery yesterday, so now it's about the team figuring out if that hand will be well enough to go on Sunday.  Note that Murray's injury is on the left hand.  He primarily carries the ball in his right.  We'll continue to keep a close eye on the situation, but RB Joseph Randle needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.  RB Lance Dunbar is worth rostering in PPR setups.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones revealed on his Monday radio show that RB DeMarco Murray broke a bone in his hand in Sunday night's win over the Eagles. Murray reportedly needs surgery but "hopes he can play" against the Colts this weekend. We'd consider him very questionable. Stay tuned for updates, but Murray owners need to be making other plans for Week 16. If Murray is out, we'd expect RB Joseph Randle to lead the backfield in carries, with RB Lance Dunbar seeing a bunch of work in passing situations.

After Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray rushed 31 times in Sunday's win over the Texans, HC Jason Garrett said the team plans to limit his rushing workload a bit more going forward.  "DeMarco was out there and we think that's probably too many carries in the game, week in and week out," Garrett said, per ESPN Dallas. "He ended up with 31 so we'd like to get that number lower. We'd really just like to get the other guys an opportunity. I don't see any wear and tear in DeMarco but having said that, we want to make sure we create a rotation and we'll focus on doing that in the next few weeks."  This is actually good news for fantasy owners.  There's approximately zero chance that the team will approach a committee setup.  Keeping Murray's carries more under control should help keep him fresher and keep from putting extra risk on a guy with a long injury history.  Through 5 games, Murray's on pace to tie Larry Johnson's NFL-record 416 carries in a season.  We'll see what kind of work Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle can actually get with Murray healthy.

The Cowboys are planning to use RB Lance Dunbar all over the formation this season.  "He's a guy that's going to be a complete weapon," RBs coach Gary Brown said.  "We can line him up anywhere on the team - tailback spot, at the wide receiver spot, in the slot. He has tremendous hands and he's just not a specialty guy. He could play tailback if you need him to go out there and give you 15 or 20 carries. He's that type of kid. He brings a whole different dimension, a whole different vibe in our room as far as what he does and we're looking forward to using him as a weapon as well."  Brown went on to compare Dunbar to RBs Darren Sproles and Danny Woodhead.  But a better comparison might be Reggie Bush, who caught 54 balls in Scott Linehan's offense last year.  Linehan, of course, will be calling plays in Dallas this season.  Mark down Dunbar as a PPR sleeper on your fantasy football cheat sheet.

New Cowboys OC Scott Linehan has a history of favoring the pass, but he's focused on the Dallas backfield right now.  “That’s going to be our strength, being able to lean on that running game a little bit more than they have in the past," he said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas recently.  TE Jason Witten also said this week that the 1st-round pick of OL Zack Martin "speaks volumes" on the offense's direction.  RB DeMarco Murray's coming off his best pro season and already looks 1st-round caliber across fantasy formats (albeit with injury risk).  RB Lance Dunbar carries late-round PPR appeal after Linehan had a pair of 50-catch RBs in Detroit last season.  Joseph Randle and Ryan Williams don't stir much fantasy interest at this point.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar is back to 100% after suffering a season-ending knee injury last Thanksgiving.  “I’d say that I’m at 100%,” he said. “I’ve been able to do everything now for a couple of weeks without any restrictions. I’m feeling pretty good. I’d definitely say I’m 100%.”  Dunbar flashed in limited action last year, averaging 5.0 yards per carry and 8.4 yards per catch.  The Cowboys reportedly view him as a Darren Sproles-type player.  That's intriguing considering new play-caller Scott Linehan likes to get his RBs involved in the passing game.  Dunbar's role in Dallas' offense will be worth monitoring this summer.  He could hold sleeper appeal in PPR fantasy leagues.

Injuries limited Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar to just 8 games in 2013.  But he flashed by averaging 5.0 yards per carry and 8.4 yards per catch.  He racked up 94 total yards on 13 touches against the Raiders on Thanksgiving.  According to insider Todd Archer, the Cowboys view Dunbar as a Darren Sproles-type player -- "a quick-hitter in the run game, effective in the screen game."  DeMarco Murray remains locked in as Dallas' lead back, and 2013 5th-round rookie Joseph Randle will be back next season.  But Dunbar's combination of speed and quicks gives the backfield a different dimension.  He's worth stashing in Dynasty leagues.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar reportedly needs surgery for the knee injury he suffered in Thursday's game against the Raiders.  He's been diagnosed with a posterior lateral corner injury (which we've never heard of).  Dunbar is expected to miss the rest of the season but should be ready for offseason activities.   He was coming off a breakout game that saw him carry 12 times for 82 yards.  Dunbar displayed some impressive burst to and through the hole.  He'll be back in 2014 to compete with RB Joseph Randle for change-of-pace duties.

Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (knee) is inactive for today’s game against the Lions.  It sounds like his bum knee didn’t respond well to practice this week.  Rookie Joseph Randle is expected to start in Murray’s place, but he figures to lose some touches to RB Lance Dunbar, who is back from his hamstring injury.  Consider Randle a low-end RB2.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team won't rush RB DeMarco Murray back from his knee injury since RB Joseph Randle played so well last weekend.  “We hope that Murray will get to practice this week,” Jones said. “We will be guarded as to how we bring all of these guys along. The reason is being, Randle played exceptional for us. He gives us confidence now as we go into Detroit. We want to be real careful with how fast we bring (back) Murray."  Dealing with a 2-4 week injury, Murray seems unlikely to play against the Lions on Sunday.  Look for Randle to get another start, although he might lose touches to RB Lance Dunbar, who's set to return from his hamstring injury.

The Cowboys have listed RB DeMarco Murray (knee) as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Eagles.  He didn't practice all week, though, and won't play this weekend.  With RB Lance Dunbar (hamstring) also out, rookie Joseph Randle will serve as Dallas' lead back.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar has yet to resume running since injuring his hamstring a couple weeks ago.  That has him doubtful to be ready for this Sunday's game against the Eagles.  With RB DeMarco Murray (knee) also expected to miss that 1, Joseph Randle looks like Dallas' feature back.  The rookie will be a viable fantasy starter in a plus matchup.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (knee) will miss this weekend's game against the Eagles.  That was pretty much a given when we learned that Murray sustained a sprained MCL last night.  We're still waiting for an update on the severity of that injury -- and a timeline for how long Murray will be out.  RB Joseph Randle is a good bet to lead Dallas' backfield in carries on Sunday.  But RB Lance Dunbar could turn it into a committee attack if he can get over the hamstring injury that kept him out this past week.  Regardless, Randle is worth a pickup in all leagues.  He'll have plenty of fantasy upside against Philly's 20th-ranked run defense.

Cowboys HC Jason Garrett revealed in his post-game press conference that RB DeMarco Murray has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain.  The severity will determine how long he's sidelined, but we're likely looking at a multi-week absence.  Lance Dunbar is Dallas' #2 RB, but he was inactive for Sunday night's game with a hamstring injury.  Rookie Joseph Randle served as the lead back after Murray exited.  He finished with just 17 yards and a score on 11 carries.  We'll keep an eye on both Murray and Dunbar this coming week.  Whoever starts at RB for Dallas next Sunday will have plenty of upside in a plus matchup against the Eagles.

Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray suffered what the team is calling a left knee sprain in the 1st half of Sunday night's game.  Murray is in the locker room and is considered questionable to return.  With #2 RB Lance Dunbar (hamstring) inactive, rookie Joseph Randle is operating as Dallas' lead back.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (foot) will make his 2013 debut this Sunday after missing the opener.  He put in a full week of practice and is listed as probable.  Dunbar is expected to slide in as the #2 RB behind DeMarco Murray, but don't expect more than a handful of touches.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar (foot) has been ruled out for Week 1.  His impressive offseason was halted by a mid-August foot sprain.  He's out of his walking boot, though, and should be back within the next couple weeks. Dunbar's absence leaves Phillip Tanner and rookie Joseph Randle behind DeMarco Murray.  Expect Murray to see 20+ touches against the Giants on Sunday night.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar will get his walking boot off in 3 days.  "I'm actually ready to get out of it now, but they want me to keep it on," Dunbar said.  "I'm already walking. It feels a whole lot better than [Wednesday]. It's healing pretty fast."  Dunbar has maintained that he's on track for the season opener.  Getting the boot off less than a week after the injury occurred seems to support that.  Before spraining his left foot, Dunbar was outplaying fellow backup options Phillip Tanner and Joseph Randle.

Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar sprained his foot in Saturday's preseason game.  He's in a walking boot and is expected to be sidelined 3-4 weeks.  Dunbar had been working as Dallas' #2 RB., but his absence will open the door for rookie RB Joseph Randle to move up the depth chart.  RB DeMarco Murray doesn't have a clear-cut handcuff at this point.

Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles. He didn't practice at all this week, although the team says he's making progress. Consider Murray questionable for Week 11. In the meantime, RB Felix Jones will get another start this weekend. He's been mediocre over the past 3 weeks and lost significant action to RB Lance Dunbar last Sunday. Jones is just a low-end RB2 in fantasy.
