The Bucs appear to be settling in with their starting set of LBs. After plenty of offseason speculation about Mason Foster moving, the 2nd-year MLB has impressed coaches of late. Word is that he's "getting it," which was the big knock on him as a rookie. It shouldn't have surprised anyone, given that he was going from college OLB to NFL MLB without a full offseason or training camp. Second-round pick Lavonte David, meanwhile, has already pushed his way into the lineup at WLB. David was working behind former Titan Rennie Curran there early on, but that always appeared a temporary situation. Unless Foster or David disappoints in preseason, those 2 should be the 3-down LBs for the Bucs. Quincy Black retains his SLB role but doesn't offer much upside. In IDP terms, Foster and David are awash in upside.

Bucs GM Mark Dominik told the St. Petersburg Times that Mason Foster could move to OLB this year. The staff apparently hasn't made any decisions on that front yet, but new DC Bill Sheridan is at least considering it. Foster opened his rookie season as the MLB starter but struggled plenty. To be fair, he faced a pretty tall order with an abbreviated training camp to learn the system and call the defensive plays. Foster's spot might also depend on what the Bucs do in free agency. Atlanta MLB Curtis Lofton is available, along with players such as Stephen Tulloch, London Fletcher and David Hawthorne. Any of them could be an option in the middle, as could former Buc Barrett Ruud. Foster remains a high-ceiling IDP because of his athleticism and could score inside or outside. We'll see how things shake out as we get into free agency and closer to OTAs.

Bucs MLB Mason Foster missed practice Wednesday with the same ankle sprain that limited him all last week. Foster started the win over the Saints but left before halftime and played just 24 of the team's 70 snaps. He'll be a big fantasy risk in Week 7 even if he returns to practice and starts against the Bears.

The Bucs listed rookie Mason Foster as the MLB starter on their initial depth chart released Tuesday. This is notable because Tyrone McKenzie had opened camp as the top guy there. Foster, a 3rd-round pick, clearly brings the higher ceiling of the 2 with an excellent combination of size, speed and mobility. He's a strong IDP sleeper. Of course, nothing is final with the lineup at this point. Elsewhere on the initial depth chart: Tampa lists Michael Bennett as the starting LDE ahead of rookie Da'Quan Bowers. No surprise, as Bowers brings the double-whammy of 1st-year player and significant injury question. He's still the better fantasy option of the 2, even if Bennett opens the season as the starter.
