Paxton Lynch Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Most Recent Fantasy Football News & Updates

The Broncos informed QB Paxton Lynch on Sunday that they're releasing him, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The only surprise here is that it came a day after the deadline to submit a 53-man roster. The delay points to Denver seeking a trade before quitting on the former 1st-round pick. Lynch might get another shot somewhere, but he shouldn't be on rosters in any fantasy football format at this point.

Broncos QB Chad Kelly got 2nd-team reps Monday, with QB Paxton Lynch running the 3rd team, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com. Kelly enjoyed a nice outing in the 1st preseason game, while Lynch continued to struggle. We'll see if this becomes a permanent switch. Dynasty owners, at least, should have Kelly on the radar now. And it might be time to just drop Lynch for him if you've been clinging to the former 1st-round pick.

Update: Joseph confirmed after practice, "Right now, [Kelly's] our backup."

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (ankle) isn’t listed on the final injury report and is expected to start Sunday’s finale against the Chiefs. Lynch bombed in his only other start this year against vs. Oakland and can’t be trusted in Week 17 fantasy lineups.

Broncos HC Vance Joseph says his team will likely start QB Paxton Lynch in the regular-season finale if the young QB is healthy enough to play. “Our goal is to see him play, so absolutely,” Joseph said, per the team website. “If he’s ready to go next week, he will probably play for us.” That wouldn't be good news for Demaryius Thomas or the rest of the Denver pass-catchers, but they've been dealing with poor QB all season with little more than the names changing. Don't expect a huge swing in our projections for any QB movement this week.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Redskins. He practiced all week, including a full workout on Friday. HC Vance Joseph said Friday that he’s still deciding whether Lynch or Brock Osweiler will start this weekend. Neither is a fantasy option, although Osweiler would be better for Denver’s skill-position guys.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. Trevor Siemian draws the start and is on the QB2 radar vs. Miami’s 24th-ranked QB defense.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch has a high-ankle sprain, according to insider Mike Klis. That tends to be a multi-week injury. It would have been tough for Denver to go back to Lynch after his debacle in Oakland yesterday, and this injury gives them an excuse to keep him glued to the bench for the rest of the season. Look for QB Trevor Siemian to start against the Dolphins this weekend.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Broncos QB Paxton Lynch's ankle injury is not serious and that he's considered "day-to-day." It sounds like he has a shot to be available for Week 13. We'd be surprised if Denver went back to him, though, after Lynch laid an egg against a bad Raiders defense yesterday. QB Trevor Siemian played well in relief and should be considered the favorite to start against the Dolphins this weekend.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch was knocked out with an ankle injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game. He was abysmal before exiting, completing 9 of 14 passes for 41 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT against a bad Raiders pass defense. QB Trevor Siemian will finish out this game. We'll see who Denver goes to in Week 13, but whoever it is will not be a fantasy option.

The Broncos will start QB Paxton Lynch this weekend, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. QB Brock Osweiler has predictably struggled over the past 3 weeks, completing 53.1% of his passes with 3 TDs and 4 INTs. So Lynch will become Denver's 3rd QB of the season. He made 2 starts as a rookie last year, connecting on 59.3% of his passes but averaging just 5.5 yards per attempt. He disappointed this offseason and couldn't beat out QB Trevor Siemian. Lynch does have a glorious Week 12 matchup against the Raiders, but he can't be trusted outside of 2-QB leagues.

The Broncos have signed QB Brock Osweiler. It's a homecoming after he began his career in Denver. There's a new HC and OC since he left after the 2015 season, though. Osweiler will back up QB Trevor Siemian at least until QB Paxton Lynch (shoulder) is available.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch will miss "at least a few weeks" with a sprained shoulder suffered in Saturday's preseason game, according to insider Mike Klis. Lynch doesn't need surgery. He'd already lost the starting job to Trevor Siemian, so there's no fantasy impact here.

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch left Saturday night's game against the Packers with a right shoulder injury. HC Vance Joseph said afterward that it was merely a bruise, though. Lynch, of course, had already lost the starting job to Trevor Siemian. So this situation shouldn't impact the Broncos or fantasy. It might affect his availability for the 4th preseason game, though.

The Broncos have named QB Trevor Siemian their starter. The news was 1st reported by 104.3 The Fan in Denver and has since been confirmed by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. HC Vance Joseph is expected to announce the decision later today. The team really had no choice here. QB Paxton Lynch hasn't taken a step forward in his 2nd season, struggling in practice and averaging an ugly 3.7 yards per attempt through 2 preseason games. Siemian, meanwhile, has been solid-if-unspectacular. He's connected on 14 of 18 preseason passes for 144 yards, 1 TD and 0 INTs. Siemian is conservative but generally accurate and safe with the football. He ranked 26th among QBs in fantasy points per game last year and isn't more than a low-end QB2 in 2017 fantasy drafts.

Broncos QB Trevor Siemian entered Saturday night's 2nd preseason game after QB Paxton Lynch but might have emerged from it atop the team's depth chart. Lynch threw for a lackluster 39 yards on 9-of-13 passing against the 49ers. He piloted 3 scoring drives, but they accounted for just 11, 26 and 12 total yards. Siemian then marched the team in for a TD -- a nice back-shoulder throw to WR Jordan Payton to beat coverage -- on his 1st possession. He finished 8-of-9 for 93 yards and a 128.2 QB rating (vs. Lynch's 72.3). Neither option looks stellar as a fantasy football target, but Siemian continues to look like the steadier play for Denver, which can't be a bad thing for the WRs' fantasy values.

Broncos HC Vance Joseph announced that QB Trevor Siemian will start Thursday night's preseason opener. But QB Paxton Lynch will start the 2nd exhibition. This remains an open competition. But Siemian drawing the 1st start does nothing to dispel this morning's report that he's in the lead. Preseason performance figures to determine who's under center come Week 1.

Yahoo's Charlie Robinson hears from Broncos staffers that Trevor Siemian is winning the team's QB competition "by default." He's been steady-if-unspectacular early in camp, while Paxton Lynch has failed to take a step forward. "If you believe the practice tape that others have watched, Lynch has lost every single practice session to Siemian," Robinson writes. "His sparse collection of good days has been – at best – on par with Siemian’s good days. Lynch’s bad days have been exponentially worse." Denver's front office would prefer their 2016 first-rounder to win this job, but they'll go with Siemian if he gives them a better chance to win. It sounds like that's still the case at this point. Neither of these guys is a fantasy option outside of 2-QB leagues, but Siemian is the target if you're dabbling in Broncos QBs.

Broncos insider Mike Klis believes the team will go pass-heavy in 2017. "It’s pretty much the same offense [OC Mike] McCoy passed down to Adam Gase in 2013 and 2014, when Peyton Manning handed off only to allow receivers like Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders to catch their breath," Klis wrote discussing the 2017 scheme. Those Denver offenses weren't quite as pass-happy as Klis believes. The 2013 Broncos ranked 2nd in pass attempts and 10th and pass rate. The 2014 version finished 9th in attempts and 16th in rate. If the Broncos approach that territory this year, though, it'd be a shift from last year, when they ranked 17th in attempts and 18th in rate. That'd be good news for WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, who have been nice values in early fantasy football drafts.

The Broncos closed out the 2017 NFL Draft by drafting Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly at the end of Round 7. NFL Network's Mike Mayock called Kelly a 1st- or 2nd-round pick "all day" without his off-field issues. In Denver, he'll enter an interesting QB situation. Trevor Siemian will again compete with 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch under new HC Vance Joseph. There's at least the chance that Lynch never pans out and Kelly works past Siemian. That makes Kelly worth considering at the end of rookie drafts in dynasty leagues, if you're not fired up about the other available talent.

What was originally believed to be a Grade 3 shoulder separation for Broncos QB Trevor Siemian turned out to be a Grade 5 injury. When he went under the knife in January, his doctor discovered torn ligaments where the clavicle, scapula and AC joint connect. Siemian was slapped with a 4-6 month recovery timeline but still expects to be ready for the start of OTAs in May. He's slated to compete for the starting job with 2016 first-rounder Paxton Lynch. It's certainly worth noting that Siemian played through the serious shoulder injury for much of this past season after it occurred in Week 4.
