Rams WR Tavon Austin has missed the past 5 training-camp practices with a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. Austin also missed spring workouts after undergoing wrist surgery. HC Sean McVay labeled him "day-to-day," but the missed time is not ideal for a guy trying to learn a brand new offense with a young QB. WR Pharoh Cooper has been getting 1st-team reps in Austin's absence -- alongside Robert Woods and rookie Cooper Kupp.

Rams rookie WR Pharoh Cooper suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos. The Los Angeles Times reports that he'll miss a few weeks, potentially including the regular-season opener. That's not going to be a big blow to anyone's fantasy lineup, but a healthy Cooper at least faces some opportunity upside in a weak L.A. receiving corps.

Colorado WR Nelson Spruce signed with Los Angeles as an undrafted free agent. It's a decent landing spot, as the Rams lack veteran WR depth. They did, however, add Pharoh Cooper (Round 4) and Mike Thomas (Round 6) over the past 2 days. Spruce is a reliable target standing 6’1, 206 pounds. He exits college with a jaw-dropping 189-2142-15 line over the last 2 years. Spruce isn’t exactly a burner, so we’ll see if he can separate from NFL DBs. At best, he looks like a long-term #3 WR.

The Rams continued to build around QB Jared Goff by selecting WR Pharoh Cooper with the 117th overall pick of the 2016 draft. Cooper totaled 135 catches for 2,109 yards and 17 TDs in a crappy South Carolina passing game over the last 2 years. He added another 311 yards and 3 TDs on the ground. Cooper is a versatile and physical wideout but goes just 5’11, 203 pounds with subpar measurables. He figures to max out as a possession-type slot receiver. And Los Angeles isn’t a great landing spot.
