Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (knee, hip) is out for Sunday's finale against the Chiefs. He pushed to get back on the field -- needing 3 more rushing yards for 1,000 -- but the team is wisely holding him out. Gordon's absence leaves San Diego with RBs Ronnie Hillman and Andre Williams, 1 of the crappiest backfields in NFL history.

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) did not practice on Tuesday. That's not a good start for his chances of returning for this weekend's game against the Browns. At this point, we're expecting Gordon to miss that one, again leaving the backfield to Kenneth Farrow and Ronnie Hillman.

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. He’s reportedly hoping to get back on the field for the season’s final 2 weeks. Kenneth Farrow will operate as San Diego’s lead back, with Ronnie Hillman as the #2. We’re expecting 15+ touches for Farrow vs. Oakland’s 28th-ranked RB defense.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (hip, knee) is not expected to play against the Raiders this weekend. "Remains a chance Gordon will play again this season," Schefter adds. He's worth stashing if you have a roster spot, but fantasy owners shouldn't bank on having Gordon this week or next. Kenneth Farrow will operate as San Diego's lead back this Sunday with Ronnie Hillman as the #2.

The Vikings have signed RB Ronnie Hillman. Sitting on a career 4.1 yards per carry and 6.4 yards per catch, he's more of a depth signing than a threat to Jerick McKinnon or Matt Asiata. Don't bother adding Hillman to your fantasy roster.

The Broncos have released RB Ronnie Hillman. The move comes as little surprise after rookie RB Devontae Booker worked clearly ahead of him as the backup to RB C.J. Anderson this summer. Hillman will turn just 25 later this month, though, so we'd bet on him landing with another team quickly. The situation will be worth watching, though you should never get excited about Hillman the player.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker entered Saturday night's game 2nd in the backfield behind C.J. Anderson. He carried 8 times for 39 yards in the 1st half, while RB Ronnie Hillman didn't see a touch until after halftime. Unless those 2 flip roles for the 3rd preseason game, Booker looks like the leader for backup duties. That makes him an attractive handcuff pick in fantasy football drafts behind a starter with no full seasons of starting duty behind him. Anderson, meanwhile, looked good against the NIners as well. His 6 carries for 30 yards included a bouncing 19-yard TD scamper. Denver figures to lean on the running game as much as possible, with shaky QB play.

The Broncos list RBs Ronnie Hillman and Devontae Booker as co-#2s on their initial depth chart, when they released Monday. That's not a big surprise, but it indicates how even the 2 are heading into the preseason. Hillman returned on a meager 1-year contract. The rookie Booker carries much more all-around upside. We'd like to see him win the backup job heading into the regular season, though all indications point to C.J. Anderson operating as a workhorse starter.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker "appears to be fully healed" after suffering a torn meniscus last November, according to the Denver Post's Cameron Wolfe. The rookie is off to a strong start in camp, excelling both on the ground and in pass protection. “I’ll put him in the game right now," RBs coach Eric Studesville said. Booker has a good shot to beat out Ronnie Hillman for the #2 RB spot and could carve out a change-of-pace role behind starter C.J. Anderson.

According to the team website, Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman has the "inside track" for the backup job behind C.J. Anderson. That's not a surprising note in June, with 4th-round rookie Devontae Booker the main competition. But we'd also be surprised if this competition is anywhere near set. Hillman returned in free agency on a minimal 1-year deal -- a lackluster commitment to a 25-year-old back who spent his 1st 4 seasons in Denver. Booker looks like a more complete back and the better bet to develop into a 3-down type in the NFL. Take this report as a reminder -- at this early stage, at least -- to not reach too early for an Anderson handcuff in fantasy football drafts.

Devontae Booker was the #2 RB on the Broncos' board, GM John Elway revealed.  Denver was able to snag Booker in the 4th round as the 7th RB selected.  “He’s a guy that has got great ball skills,” Elway said. “He runs very tough. [He’s] a very tough runner and really does a nice job after contact."  Booker dropped largely because of a torn meniscus that ended his 2015 season, but he says he's currently back to 90%.  "Greek [Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos] felt good about where that was and the situation where we were [at]," Elway added.  Booker joins C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman in the Broncos backfield.  It shouldn't take the rookie long to dispatch Hillman, and he could quickly put heat on Anderson.  It'll be a situation to monitor closely in HC Gary Kubiak's RB-friendly offense.

The Broncos have reached a new 1-year deal with RB Ronnie Hillman, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com. This comes after reports of negotiations "heating up" between the sides, making the 1-year term anti-climactic. It's significantly less than the 4-year, $19 million offer that Denver matched to keep RB C.J. Anderson from heading to Miami. Expect Anderson to enter the season as the starter and Hillman the #2 -- unless the NFL Draft brings another contender for work. Hillman beat Anderson in carries, rushing yards and TDs last season but averaged 0.5 less per rush and 2.7 yards less per reception.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Steelers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said this morning that Anderson is ready for a “full workload.” That makes him the best fantasy bet in Denver’s backfield, but the timeshare and a tough Pittsburgh run defense leave Anderson as a low-end RB2.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is expected to receive a "full workload" against the Steelers today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  Anderson put in 2 limited practices this week after failing to get on the field last Sunday.  He averaged 16.5 touches across his 2 previous games, though, and could flirt with that mark today.  The ankle issue and a tough Steelers run defense still leaves Anderson as a lower-end RB2, but he's now the top fantasy play in Denver's backfield.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is questionable for this weekend’s game against the Steelers after putting in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. He figures to be active, but is role is a total question mark after he never got on the field last week. Anderson can’t be trusted in Week 15 fantasy lineups.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is active for today’s game against the Raiders. He’s not expected to play a big role, potentially slotting in as the #3 RB behind Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson. Anderson shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson will be "very limited if he plays" against the Raiders today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  That's the vibe we got from HC Gary Kubiak on Friday.  Anderson can't be in Week 14 fantasy lineups.  RB Ronnie Hillman will start vs. Oakland, with RB Juwan Thompson likely serving as the #2 RB.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman practiced in full Friday and will start Sunday against the Raiders, according to The Denver Post. RB C.J. Anderson, meanwhile, missed another practice with his injured ankle and is officially questionable. We'd try hard not to use him in Week 14 even if he's active for the game. Juwan Thompson will be a deep fantasy option if Anderson's out.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) is listed as questionable despite not practicing all week. HC Gary Kubiak said Friday that there’s a “chance” Anderson “could dress.” That doesn’t sound like he’ll play much of a role. Anderson shouldn’t be in Week 14 fantasy lineups. RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) is also listed as questionable, but Kubiak confirmed that he’ll start Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Juwan Thompson figures to serve as the #2 RB.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman (foot) returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's workout.  He never left last week's game and should be available for this weekend's contest against the Raiders.  RB C.J. Anderson (ankle) remained sidelined on Thursday and looks extremely iffy for this weekend.  His absence would push Juwan Thompson into the #2 RB role.
