The Chiefs on Monday activated OLB Tamba Hali off the PUP list, according to The Kansas City Star. Hali has been out since an offseason knee scope. Hali missed most Chiefs practices last year as well while dealing with the knee trouble. But he only sat out 1 game and delivered a solid 48 tackles and 6.5 sacks. The 32-year-old can be OK without much camp time. Though even at full health, he's not a high-end IDP option.

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali reached a new 3-year deal to stay in Kansas City in advance of free agency. At 32, Hali appears likely to finish his career with the Chiefs. He's a marginal IDP option but helps the team D with his pressure. K.C. also added OLB Jonathan Massaquoi for depth when free agency opened Wednesday.

Chiefs OLB Justin Houston returned to a limited practice Friday for the 1st time since suffering a knee injury at San Diego in Week 13. He's officially questionable for the game but a very risky IDP prospect. Fellow OLB starter Tamba Hali (thumb) is also questionable after missing practice all week. We'll see If he's ready to play nearly 2 weeks after surgery to repair a broken thumb, but we also wouldn't feel comfy betting on Hali in an IDP lineup. Getting 1 or both edge rushers back would raise the ceiling for the K.C. Team D, though.

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali (thumb) is active for today's game against the Browns. He'll be playing his 1st game since Monday surgery for a broken thumb and thus might not be as effective as usual. There's plenty of upside to the matchup and Hali's talent, but the injury also brings some risk. Weigh that against your other IDP options this week.

Update: Hali was actually inactive for the game. We misread his status based on incomplete info on another website. Sorry for the error.

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. He had surgery early this week after suffering a broken thumb in the Week 15 win at Baltimore. Hali missed all 3 practices this week and looks like a game-time decision. We'd lean away from using Hali even if he's active. The Chiefs might look to play him fewer snaps than usual, especially if they can build a lead over Cleveland. We also have to wonder how effective he'd be while likely working with a club on the repaired hand. If Hali sits, K.C. would start Dee Ford and Frank Zombo at the OLB spots, with Justin Houston still nursing a knee injury. The Chiefs still look like a strong team-D play, but injuries to both OLB starters lowers the scoring ceiling at least a bit.

11:07am EDT 10/18/15

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali (knee) is active for today's game at Minnesota. He had been questionable. The veteran hasn't had a particularly productive start to the season, though, and is only a marginal IDP option.

10:46am EST 12/21/14

As expected, Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali is active for today's game at Pittsburgh. He has been playing through a knee issue for weeks and should be fine to use as you normally  would in your IDP league.

11:04am EST 12/14/14

Chiefs LB Tamba Hali will play today against the Raiders despite a knee injury that had him questionable. He's fine to use as you normally would in your IDP lineup.

Chiefs LB Tamba Hali is questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders because of a knee injury that has lingered for a while. Hali normally sees limited practice time during the week but sat out Wednesday and Thursday completely this week before a limited Friday workout. We'd still guess that he'll play, but you'll need to watch Hali's Sunday status if you plan to use him in your IDP lineup. The 1 p.m. kickoff at least means there'll be plenty of insurance options available.

10:00pm EDT 5/8/14

Auburn DE/OLB Dee Ford went to the Chiefs with the 23rd pick of the NFL draft.  Ford doesn't look like a rookie starter on a 3-4 D that still boasts OLB Tamba Hali and OLB Justin Houston.  But Hali has just 1 year left on his contract beyond this season (at $8.75 million total).  Houston's in the final year of his deal but has reportedly already begun extension talks with the team.  Ford carries long-term intrigue for IDP owners but doesn't look like he'll factor into the 2014 IDP rankings.

The Chiefs practiced without OLB Tamba Hali on Tuesday but welcomed LT Branden Albert and OLB Justin Houston back for full workouts.  Albert (knee) and Houston (elbow) missed Sunday's game but appear on track to return.  Hali reportedly has knee swelling, but HC Andy Reid said he should be fine "down the road."  Kansas City is the only team locked into its AFC playoff seeding heading into Week 17, so Reid might decide to sit all 3 starters.

1:53pm EST 12/1/13

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali is active, as expected, for today's rematch with the Broncos.  He doesn't carry big IDP upside against Denver after notching a season-low 2 QB disruptions in the 1st meeting (both hurries).

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali's not only ready to face the Broncos on Sunday.  He says the ankle he sprained in the loss to San Diego will be back to 100%.  "I don't like to say 100 percent but I've tested it out to where I can do what I like doing," Hali said, per The hardest thing about playing our position is rushing inside with a sore ankle. You don't want to go in there because you don't want to plant it. I'm able to do that. That's allowing me to cut and change direction and sprint. I should be fine."   We'll take him at his word and use him in sack-friendly IDP leagues.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid told reporters Monday that OLB Tamba Hali suffered only a slight ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.  A Monday MRI confirmed that it wasn't a high ankle sprain.  That makes Hali likely to return for the Week 13 clash with Denver.  Fellow OLB Justin Houston, meanwhile, still had too much swelling in his dislocated elbow to get an MRI Monday.  That certainly makes him look more iffy for the Broncos rematch.  No member of the Chiefs' pass rush factored into the 1st meeting much, but Kansas City obviously needs all the defensive help it can get.  IDP owners should plan on going without Houston but should have Hali available as an option.

1:27pm EST 11/24/13

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's game against the Chargers.  The team has announced his return as questionable.  Fellow OLB Justin Houston also left the game later with his own injury, but we've yet to hear an update on his status.

The league has suspended Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali for the season opener for violating the substance abuse policy. The suspension obviously forces K.C. to play a game without its top pass rusher. Second-year OLB Justin Houston will be relied on more heavily in his absence. Cameron Sheffield and Andy Studebaker are candidates to start in Hali's place.

Chiefs DE Tamba Hali hurt his right knee vs. the Chargers. He was in a boot after the game. The Chiefs already were without CB Brandon Flowers, DE Turk McBride, and LB Derrick Johnson in week 10.  The MRI results on Hali should be announced today. Hali only had 1 sack so far (compared to 8 in each of the previous 2 years) but he's still a very important part of their defense.

Chiefs DE Tamba Hali, their 2006 1st-round pick, sustained a hip injury in St. Louis and might be limited in practice this week. He is expected to play at Miami this Sunday. Hali is having a good rookie season after being thrown into the starting lineup the day he was drafted: 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks, & 3 forced fumbles.
