Seahawks HC Pete Carroll described his backfield as "pretty wide open" on Wednesday. “You start with those two guys [Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy], but then C.J. [Prosise] brings some stuff and Chris [Carson] is really exciting to see too and then [J.D.] McKissic’s lit us up the last couple days with all the versatility he brought and with the question of where he playing and all, so I’m fine with it.” Carroll said. “I am really comfortable and I have no problem with it. Also, I’m comfortable with a guy taking over. If a guy takes over and it’s obvious, I got no problem with that either." There's potential for any of these guys to "take over." Rawls, Lacy, Prosise and Carson are all worth drafting at the right price (i.e. cheaply). But none of them will be a reliable Week 1 fantasy play.

Seahawks RB Chris Carson led the 1st-team backfield in Friday night's preseason game against the Chiefs. The rookie ripped off 46 yards on 8 carries and caught 2 balls for 44 more. RB Eddie Lacy, meanwhile, toted it 4 times for 21 yards and didn't catch any passes. Carson out-snapped Lacy 14 to 9 in the 1st half, according to Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke. RBs Thomas Rawls (ankle) and C.J Prosise (groin) both missed this one, but Carson's performance and usage is notable nonetheless. He's been Seattle's most impressive RB this preseason and deserves a Week 1 role. This backfield is as muddy as ever. None of these guys will be reliable Week 1 fantasy plays.

Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise missed practice Monday and Tuesday because of a strained groin he suffered before the Saturday preseason game, according to The News-Tribune. HC Pete Carroll said a weekend MRI came back negative, but Prosise has reportedly tested the area only with some running on the side the past 2 days. When asked Tuesday if he's getting concerned about Prosise's dependability, run-game coordinator Tom Cable said, "I think we all are." Carroll had previously called out Prosise's lack of durability early this offseason. If his return from this latest issue lingers, then it could impact coaches' willingness to increase his touches. Prosise looks like the biggest talent in the Seattle backfield, but he'll need to get and stay healthy to capitalize on it. His 10th-round ADP, at least, gives him little risk as a fantasy football draft pick.

The Seahawks lost starting LT George Fant to an ACL tear in Friday night's preseason game. Fant hasn't proved to be a special talent, but it's a bad loss for a team that has already struggled on the O-line. It harms the fantasy outlook for all Seattle RBs. We're not changing the projections for QB Russell Wilson, but losing Fant could make life more challenging for him all year.

Seahawks 7th-round rookie RB Chris Carson played with the 1st-team offense in Friday night's preseason game against the Vikings. He was on the field for 9 of 22 snaps with QB Russell Wilson. RB Eddie Lacy played 13. It's certainly worth noting that neither Thomas Rawls nor C.J. Prosise played in this one. But it still feels like Carson is pushing for a regular-season role. He's reportedly been impressive in training camp and turned his 7 touches into 44 yards vs. Minnesota. We're not ready to recommend Carson as a redraft pick just yet, but he's made this Seahawks backfield even more crowded.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls will miss the 2nd preseason game with what HC Pete Carroll labeled a "minor ankle issue." Remember that Rawls fractured his ankle back in 2015 -- although it's unclear if this is related, or even the same ankle. We'll keep an eye on him. Rawls' absence will give RB Eddie Lacy a shot to run with the starters against the Vikings on Friday.

Seahawks RBs Eddie Lacy and Thomas Rawls split 1st-team reps during the team's mock game on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia. Seattle is likely taking it easy on Lacy, who's returning from a serious ankle injury. But it's still that Rawls is being given a shot to win the lead job. He's lasting into the 13th round of recent drafts, while Lacy is going in the 7th.

Seahawks RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) avoided the PUP list and was on the field for the start of training camp over the weekend. “He got his work done," HC Pete Carroll said. "He looks good. I’m really happy that he made it through all of the work to get to this point and he is ready to go, so we take it one day at a time, but really good first impression coming back for our first camp with him." Lacy was limited all spring after last October's ankle surgery, and Seattle figures to ease him in early on in camp. But, barring a setback, he should be a full-go come Week 1. Lacy is the favorite to lead the 2017 Seahawks in carries but needs to fend off RBs C.J. Prosise and Thomas Rawls.

It's "unclear" if Seahawks RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) will be at 100% when training camp opens on July 30, according to the Seattle Times' Bob Condotta. Lacy underwent surgery way back in October and was limited this spring. We haven't heard any concern that he won't be ready come Week 1, but his status will be worth keeping a close eye on. Condotta mentions that RB Thomas Rawls is expected to "run with the first team" when camp opens. If Rawls can rediscover his 2015 form, Condotta writes, there's "no way he won’t have a significant role." Rawls is an intriguing flier at his RB51 ADP.

The Seahawks signed RB Eddie Lacy to a 1-year deal worth $5.55 million ($3 million guaranteed). Lacy appeared in just 5 games last year, but he proved efficient with 5.1 YPC and strong after-contact marks on 71 attempts. His season ended in November following right ankle surgery. Just like his weight, the ankle will be worth monitoring throughout the offseason. This move certainly takes some appeal from Thomas Rawls, who dealt with injuries of his own in 2016. C.J. Prosise -- yet another RB with durability questions -- should slide into a prominent pass catching role.

Seahawks RB C.J Prosise (scapula) is inactive for this afternoon's game against the Falcons. He returned to practice this week and would seem to have a shot to play if Seattle advances to the NFC Championship. Thomas Rawls and Alex Collins will continue to handle backfield duties today -- with perhaps a sprinkle of J.D. McKissic.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (shoulder) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’s set to play on Sunday vs. the 49ers’ league-worst RB defense.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (shoulder) "should be fine" for Sunday's game against the 49ers, HC Pete Carroll said. Seattle still has a shot at the NFC's #2 seed, so they'll be going all out. The game could also get out of hand in a hurry, though, so the banged-up Rawls could be pulled early. Still, there's lots of upside here against the league's 32nd-ranked RB defense.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll admitted Monday that he's not sure if RB Thomas Rawls (shoulder) will be available for the finale vs. the 49ers. "I don't think it's bad," Carroll added. Seattle still has a shot at the NFC's #2 seed with a win, a loss by the Falcons to the Saints and a loss by the Lions either tonight to the Cowboys or next week to the Packers. Of course, the 'Hawks can beat the 'Niners without Rawls. Alex Collins will serve as the lead back if Rawls can't go.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls left Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a shoulder injury. He carried just 8 times for 8 yards before leaving and failed to catch his lone target. RB Alex Collins carried 7 times for 28 yards and caught 4 passes for 19 yards in relief.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls rushed for a healthy 5.6-yard average in Sunday's loss to the Packers, but he logged only 12 carries in a game that wasn't close for long. Rawls rushed only 12 times for 67 yards and caught 1 pass for 7 more among 2 targets. But Alex Collins stepped in for 7 late carries as Seattle trailed by multiple TDs for most of the day. Rawls sits at a sluggish 3.8 yards per rush for the season but has topped 5.0 in 2 straight games. He'll make for a solid weekly play over the final 2-3 games (vs. Los Angeles, vs. Arizona, at San Francisco).

1-3 inches of snow is expected in Green Bay today, but winds will be at just 4-8 mph. Those aren't ideal conditions, but we're not expecting weather to have a major impact on the Seahawks or the Packers, who both have experience playing in crappy weather.

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls left Sunday night's game to get checked for a concussion. We'll keep an eye out for updates. He had gotten off to a torrid start, with 103 yards and 2 TDs on 11 carries. Seattle doesn't have much to lean on in the backfield if Rawls misses any time.

Update: Rawls returned for the start of the 2nd half. (Phew.)

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll confirmed Monday that RB C.J. Prosise fractured his scapula in Sunday's win over the Eagles. He doesn't need surgery, but Carroll said the team won't have a clear timetable for his return "for weeks." Colts WR Donte Moncrief missed 5 weeks with this injury earlier this season. Prosise is a major long shot to play again during the regular season and can be safely dropped in redraft leagues. Seattle is left with only rookie Alex Collins behind Thomas Rawls now. Rawls is in for some big workloads down the stretch.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll admitted after Sunday's win over the Eagles that RB C.J. Prosise is "going to be out for a while" with a scapula injury. "There's a chance he comes back this year," Carroll added. It sounds like the rookie is dealing with a broken bone, but we should learn more tomorrow. RB Thomas Rawls looked good in his return today and appears poised to take back over as Seattle's lead back.
