ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Giants WR Victor Cruz is done for the season after undergoing surgery on his torn patellar tendon today.  It's a major blow to the Giants offense, which will now be forced to move rookie Odell Beckham into the starting lineup and use Preston Parker as the #3 WR.  Rueben Randle looks like the best fantasy bet among the team's pass-catchers the rest of the way.  Beckham and TE Larry Donnell get boosts, too.  Cruz, meanwhile, has a difficult rehab ahead of him.  Patellar tendon injuries have wrecked numerous guys' careers.  Cruz would do well just to be ready for Week 1 of 2015.  Note that Dolphins WR Brandon Gibson tore his patellar tendon in Week 8 last year and was ready for this year's opener.

Giants WR Victor Cruz injured his right knee on a non-contact play in the 3rd quarter of Sunday night's game.  He simply crumpled when he tried to go up for a pass and immediately grabbed at the knee.  He was visibly upset as he was carted off the field.  This one didn't look good.  We'll pass along an update when we get one.

Update: Cruz was quickly diagnosed with a torn patellar tendon.  It'll almost certainly end his season.  The Giants will move forward with Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham as their top 2 WRs.

Giants WR Victor Cruz didn't mince words when discussing what needs to change with the passing game going forward.  “I think in order for us to be successful, there needs to be an increased number of targets in my direction,” Cruz said Tuesday.  Tough to argue with that.  Cruz is New York's best WR but saw just 6 targets in Monday night's opener.  That ranked 3rd behind TE Larry Donnell (8) and WR Jerrel Jernigan (7).  Look for Cruz to be force fed in Week 2.  The question then becomes whether he and QB Eli Manning can get on the same page.  Just 2 of Cruz's 6 targets resulted in completions in the opener.

The Giants aren't happy with their offense so far this preseason.  "We are realists, and looking at what looked to be a very poor performance in the first half with the 1s that didn't really get a lot better once the 2s came in," Giants coach Tom Coughlin told ESPN New York after Saturday's game against the Colts. "It wasn't impressive at all. We didn't get a whole lot done. There's no production. There's nothing to look at from a production standpoint."  QB Eli Manning echoed the sentiment: "Still figuring out what's going to be our style of football, which concepts are going to work the best for us and all of those things. Each game, something comes up that's new, and we've got to make sure we're on the same page as [offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo] and we're seeing eye to eye."  It's easy to get excited about a new scheme and how it might fit the Giants' players, but it's important to remember that the system is new to all involved and that McAdoo is taking his 1st turn as an NFL coordinator.  Use some caution when drafting Giants, especially the passing-game pieces.  At the same time, a slow start could turn some key players into in-season trade targets.  We saw in Arizona last season, for example, how a slow start can give way to a strong finish.

Giants WR Odell Beckham is expected to be sidelined "at least another week" with his hamstring injury, according to insider Jordan Raanan.  Tests on Beckham's hammy came back negative on Monday, but the rookie continues to miss valuable practice time.  He missed most of spring workouts and has already missed a week of training camp.  Beckham won't be higher than 3rd on the depth chart when the season kicks off.  Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle are locked in as the Giants' top 2 WRs.

Giants insider Jordan Raanan believes WR Victor Cruz has a chance to catch 100 balls this season.  He was on pace for 83 catches last year before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 14.  Cruz caught 86 balls in 2012 and 82 in 2011.  Now he's set to play the "Randall Cobb role" in OC Ben McAdoo's offense.  Cobb racked up 80 catches in his 2nd season and was on pace for 83 last year.  Cruz is just as talented as Cobb and doesn't have as much competition for targets.  Raanan says that Cruz will continue to be QB Eli Manning's "security blanket" and that the two are already "on the same page."  Consider Cruz a high-end WR2 with the potential to finish in WR1 territory this season, especially in PPR leagues.

Giants WR Victor Cruz believes he's a good fit in new OC Ben McAdoo's offense.  “It enhances my skills,” he said. “Anytime a receiver can get the ball in his hands quicker, it’s beneficial."  Cruz is one of the more dangerous after-the-catch receivers in the league.  New York's new offense will take advantage of that.  It's also worth noting that Cruz said the system is "definitely a little bit more pass happy than the offense we’ve had in the past."  We love Cruz to bounce back from his disappointing 2013 season.

Giants insider Dan Graziano believes WR Victor Cruz could be even better in new OC Ben McAdoo's offense than he was in former OC Kevin Gilbride's.  McAdoo's scheme is "rooted in the idea of getting the ball in the hands of its playmakers -- close to the line of scrimmage, if need be -- and asking them to make plays with it," according to Graziano.  Cruz is plenty explosive with the ball in his hands.  He averaged just 3.6 yards after the catch last season, but posted marks of 4.1 and 7.3 the 2 previous seasons.  If QB Eli Manning can bounce back this year, Cruz could reemerge as a WR1 in fantasy football.  He's a fine value at his current late-3rd/early-4th-round ADP.

Giants QB Eli Manning has been "rejuvenated" by new OC Ben McAdoo's offense, according to beat writer Jordan Raanan.  "He admitted spending more time studying and focusing on the intricacies of the offense," Raanan writes of Manning. "He admitted being more mentally stimulated this offseason than in previous year."  McAdoo is installing a quick-hitting, timing-based passing game.  The Giants have the WRs to make that work in Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle and Odell Beckham.  And the quick passes should help mask any offensive line issues.  We're interested to see how this offense comes together in training camp and preseason action.  For now, though, we're not viewing Manning as more than a low-end QB2.

The Giants bolstered their WR corps by adding Odell Beckham in the 1st round of the draft.  Beckham goes just 5'11 and 198 pounds but possesses 4.4 speed, a 38.5-inch vertical and big-time acceleration.  He also draws high marks for his route running.  NFL.com's Gil Brandt believes Beckham will develop into the best receiver in this draft class.  We think he'll top out as a #2 WR at the NFL level.  The G-Men figure to run primarily 3-WR sets this year, with Beckham, Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle.

Giants WR Victor Cruz says he's "fully healthy" after undergoing knee surgery in December.  He's been weight lifting for a couple weeks and plans to resume running routes later in March.  The knee shouldn't be an issue in 2014.  Cruz is coming off a disappointing 73-998-4 line but remains in the prime of his career at 27 years old.  He's an excellent bounce-back candidate this season -- and a potential value pick in fantasy football drafts.

The Giants have hired Ben McAdoo to replace retired OC Kevin Gilbride.  McAdoo has spent the past 10 years as a positional coach under Mike McCarthy.  He's never run an NFL offense but did recently get a recommendation from QB Aaron Rodgers.  McAdoo is expected to install a West Coast offense in New York.  His play-calling will be a bit of a wild card when evaluating the 2014 fantasy prospects of Giants skill-position players.

Giants WR Victor Cruz said there was a "disconnect" with QB Eli Manning this season.   "I think this year I’ll make it a point to get with Eli a little bit more and get with our quarterbacks a little bit more and get the receiving corps together as much as we can, to kind of build that more,'' Cruz said. "I think that’s one thing we lacked, is kind of that continuity from a receiver standpoint with our quarterback and I want to build that earlier this year, whether we’ve got to set some time a part and get the receivers down with Eli whenever he’s ready and kind of just schedule it right so we can just build, not only on the field, but off the field."  The Giants will spend the offseason trying to figure out why the passing game struggled so badly in 2013.  Manning's completion rate, passing yards, TDs and INTs were all his worst marks since at least 2008.

Giants WR Victor Cruz underwent arthroscopic surgery today to repair ligament damage in his left knee.  It's a relatively minor procedure that shouldn't impact his offseason program.  Cruz's numbers took a hit across the board this year, but that was almost entirely because of QB Eli Manning's struggles.  Cruz is 27 years old and in the prime of his career.  He'll be a prime 2014 bounce-back candidate -- if you still believe in Manning.

The Giants have officially ruled out WR Victor Cruz (knee, concussion) for Sunday's game against the Lions.  We're still awaiting an on update on that knee injury.  Note that WR Jerrel Jernigan will actually take over Cruz's slot role.  But it'll be WR Rueben Randle who benefits in the target department.

On top of the concussion he sustained last week, Giants WR Victor Cruz also injured his knee.  It sounds like that might be the bigger concern.  HC Tom Coughlin revealed that Cruz went for a 2nd opinion on the knee and that there might be another update this afternoon.  A bunch of Giant beat writers say Coughlin didn't sound optimistic.  Cruz's 2013 season is almost certainly over.  Now we're hoping the knee injury won't impact his offseason.

Giants WR Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  All indications are that he'll miss this weekend's game against the Lions -- and likely Week 17, too.  That'll move the talented Rueben Randle into the starting lineup, making him an intriguing WR3 in fantasy.

Giants insider Ebenezer Samuel believes WR Victor Cruz (concussion) might be placed on IR this week.  The team called up WR Julian Talley from the practice squad on Tuesday, which could signal that Cruz's season is over.  Fantasy owners shouldn't plan on having him this week or next. Cruz's absence will move WR Rueben Randle into an every-down role.  The 2nd-year wideout has averaged 15.4 yards per catch and scored on 6 of his 37 catches this season.  He'll be an intriguing WR3 for Sunday's game against the Lions.

Giants WR Victor Cruz sustained a concussion in the 2nd half of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.  He finished with just 2 catches for 25 yards.  Cruz will need to pass through the league's concussion protocol in order to play against the Lions next Sunday.
