New-Look Patriots' Backfield Includes Same Old TreVeyon Henderson

There was hope that last week's season-ending knee injury to Antonio Gibson would free up more playing time and touches for TreVeyon Henderson. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Henderson played only 19 snaps, his second-lowest total of the season, in the Patriots' 25-19 win in New Orleans. QB Drake Maye led the way for New England, throwing for 261 yards and accounting for 3 TDs in the victory.

Drake Maye Questionable For Week 18

Patriots QB Drake Maye (right hand) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Bills. HC Jerod Mayo said earlier this week that Maye will start, but the hand “injury” could give New England an excuse to pull Maye from this game at some point. The Patriots lock up the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft with a loss. And the coaching staff has hinted this week that QB Joe Milton could get snaps vs. Buffalo. Maye shapes up as a risky Week 18 fantasy play.

Drake Maye Cleared To Play Week 9

Patriots QB Drake Maye has cleared concussion protocol and been removed from the Week 9 injury report. He'll start Sunday's game vs. the Titans. Maye has turned in QB8 and QB7 fantasy finishes in his two full games this season. He threw for 23 yards and ran for 46 yards and a score in a little more than a quarter of action before getting knocked out last week. The Titans rank 14th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs and will be without top CB L'Jarius Sneed tomorrow. Maye projects as a strong QB2 and a lower-end spot-start option in 1-QB leagues.

Drake Maye Ready For Week 7

Patriots QB Drake Maye (knee) is not listed on the final Week 7 injury report. He reportedly went for an MRI on his knee after Wednesday’s practice but was a full participant on both Thursday and Friday. There’s no reason to believe the knee will be a factor in Sunday morning’s game vs. the Jaguars.

Drake Maye to be Named Starter Soon?

Patriots QB Drake Maye has outplayed QB Jacoby Brissett according to HC Jerod Mayo. With Brissett suffering a right shoulder injury in yesterday's preseason along with Maye outplaying Brissett, the Patriots appear close to having Maye start the season as the starter.

Jacoby Brissett Injures Right Shoulder in Preseason

Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett took one drive in their preseason game against the Washington Commanders. The team reports that Brissett sustained a right shoulder injury and is questionable. With only 14 days until the Patriots season opener, his status is currently unknown.

        Patriots snag Drake Maye

The Patriots drafted North Carolina QB Drake Maye in Round 1 of the NFL Draft. Maye took over as North Carolina’s starter in 2022 and turned in an incredible sophomore season. He racked up 4,321 yards and 38 TDs vs. just seven INTs on a 66.2% completion rate and 8.4 yards per attempt. Maye ranked third among 93 qualifying QBs in Pro Football Focus passing grades, displaying an impressive combination of aggression and decision-making. His 8.4% big-time throw rate – a PFF stat for downfield, tight-window completions – ranked second among those 93 QBs, while his 2.4% turnover-worthy play rate ranked 22nd. Maye’s wrong production took a step back last year: 3,608 yards and 24 TDs. He dealt with an ankle injury, an OC change, and the departure of go-to WR Josh Downs. But Maye still completed 63.3% of his passes at 8.5 yards per attempt and ranked seventh among 95 qualifiers in PFF passing grade. He has ideal size at 6’4, 223 pounds with an explosive release and the arm strength to make any throw on the field. Maye is also a plus athlete, throwing well on the run and rushing for 1,147 yards and 16 TDs over the past two seasons. There are shades of Justin Herbert to Maye’s game; he has that type of fantasy ceiling. To reach it, though, the Pats must upgrade the offense around him. For now, Maye’s looking at a WR corps of Demario Douglas, K.J. Osborn, Kendrick Bourne, and JuJu Smith-Schuster. There’s a chance that Jacoby Brissett is the Week 1 starter. Beyond superflex formats, Maye is off the redraft radar.
