Kyren Williams Looking to Improve, but Will Rams Scale Back Volume?

Rams RB Kyren Williams doesn't believe he's reached his "peak" in the NFL. “I've gotten to where I wanted to be, but I'm determined to make this my best season," Williams remarked via NFL.com. The 24-year-old finished as the PPR RB7 last year. He set career highs in carries (316), catches (34), total yards (1,481), and total TDs (16).

What They're Saying

Williams mentioned explosive runs as one area he’d like to improve. Per Pro Football Focus, he tallied only six runs of 15+ yards during the 2024 regular season.

“Just trying to make more explosive runs, be able to create long runs and just create more opportunities for my guys around me to be successful,” Williams noted via RG.org. “However that looks, whether that’s pass blocking, catching the ball, breaking long runs, converting first downs, do everything I can to make sure that I’m the best I can be consistently this year.”

2025 Fantasy Football Impact

The Rams continued to lean on Williams last season. He ranked third in the league in carries, despite missing one game.

But we may see some of that workload shift elsewhere in 2025. Here’s GM Les Snead on The Rich Eisen Show after the draft.

“We do think the way this NFL season’s going — the amount of wear and tear that goes into playing running back — that having a committee, and a committee with different skill sets, only helps us continue being able to run the football like we want to run it.”

Of course, the Rams held a similar view after drafting Blake Corum in Round 3 of 2024. But he added nothing as a rookie, and the team selected another RB – Round 4 Jarquez Hunter – in April.

At a minimum, the Hunter pick provides more insurance for Williams, who enters a contract season. We’ll see how the work is divvied up behind Williams in training camp.

For now, the veteran still projects as a fringe RB1 in our RB rankings. But his outlook is shakier than it’s been in recent years.
