Andrew Van Ginkel, Edge, Miami Dolphins

This guy just might be an auto-start when Jaelan Phillips is out.

Van Ginkel got the start and playing time boost (to 88%) with Phillips out in Week 2. He responded with a sack among 3 QB hits and 6 tackles, plus a pass deflection.

Week 4 found him on the field 76% of the time, with Phillips out for a separate injury. And Van Ginkel registered Miami’s only 2 sacks in the loss to the Bills. He supplied half the team’s tackles for loss (3).

We’ll see about Phillips’ status for Week 5 against the Giants. But Van Ginkel might be earning more playing time either way.

Jonathan Greenard, Edge, Houston Texans

Greenard followed a sack and 2 tackles for loss in Week 1 at Baltimore with a pair of quiet outings. He got louder in Sunday’s win over the Steelers, though, with a pair of sacks among 3 QB hits and 3 tackles for loss.

Next comes a Week 5 meeting with Atlanta, which has allowed 4+ sacks to three of four opponents.

Dayo Odeyingbo, Edge, Indianapolis Colts

The third-year former second-round pick played a season-high 59% of snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Rams. He took advantage, racking up a career-high 4 QB hits.

That included 1.5 sacks – his third time reaching that number over his past eight games, dating back to last year. Odeyingbo also totaled 7 tackles (5 solos), forced a fumble, and deflected a pass.

His playing time didn’t even get a boost from the Kwity Paye concussion. Paye didn’t exhibiti symptoms until after the game. However, his likely absence for Week 6 – barring abnormally quick progression through the league protocol – can only help Odeyingbo’s playing time.

Jack Gibbens, LB, Tennessee Titans

Gibbens has been quietly outperforming Azeez Al-Shaair through four weeks, as I mentioned in the Week 4 IDP Hits. He got a little less quiet Sunday, tallying a team-high 10 tackles and his first pass defensed of the year.

The second-year LB has also increased his playing time the past two weeks. He went from 65% and 66% the first two games to 80% and 77% the past two.

That still leaves him clearly behind Al-Shaair, a full-timer. But Gibbens leads Al-Shaair by 1 solo tackle and trails him by just 1 combined tackle.

Even if he doesn't continue to gain snaps, Gibbens can be useful.

Nate Landman, LB, Atlanta Falcons

Landman played 82% of snaps Sunday in London, the first game since Troy Andersen’s season-ending pectoral tear. His 10 tackles ranked second on the team and accounted for 13.9% of the team’s total in the loss to the Jaguars. He supplied an even stronger 20.5% of the team’s solo tackles (8).

Landman has graded very well as a run defender so far but likely won’t help with big plays. He did total 10 sacks across his college career and get seven pass-rush chances in his first start this year. But Atlanta gave him just one against the Jags. Landman also topped out at 4 passes defensed in a college season, with 3 career INTs.

If your scoring leans on tackles, though, he looks like a solid-to-good option.

Chad Muma, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Muma tallied just 7 tackles Sunday in his first start in place of injured Devin Lloyd. But that made up a solid 13.7% of Jacksonville’s total in a game that saw the Jags rule time of possession.

Muma played 57 of 58 defensive snaps in the win over the Falcons and will get at least one more start in Lloyd’s place. He added 2 passes defensed.

A Week 5 meeting with the Bills should present more opportunities, with Buffalo’s offense likely to spend much more time on the field than the Falcons did.
