49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk was a no-show for Wednesday's practice. The team had been understanding of Aiyuk's hold-in during training camp but wanted him back on the field on Wednesday as prep starts for Week 1.
HC Kyle Shanahan before Wednesday's practice: "I haven't heard anything. I've been working on the 53-[man roster], the practice squad — I haven't talked to him. I know he's been cleared by our doctors so I hope that he's out there practicing today."
GM John Lynch: "At some point, you've got to play."
This situation seems to be reaching a boiling point. The 49ers were reportedly close to trading Aiyuk earlier this month -- and then seemed close to agreeing to a new deal. Neither happened. And now Aiyuk's status remains in limbo with the team's opener just 12 days away.
