Giants QB Daniel Jones completed 29 of 40 passes (73%) for 281 yards (7.0 YPA) in Thursday night's loss to the Cowboys. He was decisive and accurate in the short passing game, peppering WRs Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson with 29 combined targets. Jones couldn't connect on much downfield, though, notably missing two deep throws to WR Darius Slayton and one to Nabers. Two of those could have gone for TDs with well-placed balls. Jones also struggled in the red zone, with the Giants ultimately settling for five FGs. Jones carried four times for just three yards.
This was a generally positive performance from Jones and the Giants' offensive line. Nabers and Robinson consistently created separation, and Jones had time to find them. A strong Cowboys pass rush totaled just one sack and didn't generate much pressure.
It didn't result in a quality fantasy outing, though. It's tough to score fantasy points without connecting on downfield shots or scoring TDs. Jones has just four completions 20+ yards downfield through four games.
With Nabers already looking like one of the best WRs in the league, Robinson taking a third-year leap, and the Giants' offensive line playing well enough, Jones looks like a solid QB2 going forward. But until we see him produce more big plays in the passing game, he'll be tough to trust in 1-QB fantasy leagues.
Week 5 brings a trip to Seattle to face a Seahawks defense that's been impressive so far this season. That's followed by better matchups against the Bengals and Eagles.
