Eagles QB Jalen Hurts threw up maybe the worst performance of his career in Monday night's OT loss to the Chargers. He tossed a career-high 4 INTs, and narrowly avoided a fifth thanks to the ball hitting the ground before S R.J. Mickens could secure it. Hurts also achieved the rare feat of turning the ball over twice on the same play. He threw a pick to DT Da'Shawn Hand, who fumbled while returning. Hurts recovered that fumble but then lost his own to give it back to the Chargers. The Philly QB also contributed zero TDs for the first time all season and even ran for only 8 yards on four attempts.
What They're Saying
Hurts: "I didn't play well enough. Too many turnovers. Lots of opportunities, especially when we get to the other side of the 50, and I wasn't able to get us in the box."
HC Nick Sirianni: "Obviously, this game is the ultimate team game, so it's never just on one person. Now, ultimately, he always has the ball in his hands, and I know he'll wear a lot of that and own that, and I got to do a better job of helping him in those scenarios. ... It's always that we look at ourselves as coaches first. Did we help him be in position to succeed and then execute? So obviously never want to turn the ball over. We've been pretty good at that, and tonight was a little uncharacteristic of ourselves."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
That last part's true, especially of Hurts. He entered the game with just 2 INTs for the season and is still working on his third year of a 1.6% INT rate or lower.
But Hurts has also performed much worse since Philly's Week 9 bye.
| Pre-bye |
70.2% |
209.6 |
2.5 | 8.99 | 114.4 | 24.1 |
| Post-bye |
57.5% |
215.4 |
1.4 | 5.58 | 72.4 | 18.6 |
And the latter fantasy average even gets some inflation from Hurts' highest score of the season at Dallas in Week 12, a game he and the offense started hot before crumbling in the second half.
Hurts ranks 17th for the season among QBs in EPA per play, according to Sumer Sports, directly behind:
- Jaxson Dart
- Jameis Winston
- Caleb Williams
- Brock Purdy
- Mac Jones
Should We Bench Hurts?
Before we look ahead, let's look back a little. Here's how Hurts has ranked among fantasy QBs for the five weeks since his bye, plus where those opponents rank in our adjusted fantasy points allowed:
| 10 |
18th |
GB |
28th |
| 11 | 14th | DET | 7th |
| 12 | 1st | DAL | 1st |
| 13 |
11th |
CHI |
4th |
| 14 |
26th |
LAC |
29th |
So Hurts' two worst fantasy outings over that span have come against two of the league's toughest matchups this season for QB scoring. He delivered against Dallas (even though it could have been better), disappointed but didn't crush you against Chicago, and struggled some against Detroit on a windy night that also produced Jared Goff's career-low completion rate (37.8%).
Now let's look ahead to the remaining matchups:
- vs. Raiders
- at Commanders
- at Bills
- (Week 18) vs. Commanders
Those opponents (respectively) rank 20th, third, and 30th as QB-scoring matchups.
I'd have a hard time sitting Hurts against the Raiders, but we should probably go in expecting more modest numbers in what's been a negative matchup.
He should be an easy start at Washington the following week.
At Buffalo? I guess we'll see as that draws closer. But you might want to at least consider a potential Week 17 insurance pickup now. Check the QB strength of schedule page for matchup help.
Other Winners & Losers
Hurts' struggles haven't hurt WR A.J. Brown, who hit 100 yards for the third straight game Monday night -- despite dropping an early downfield opportunity.
Brown's targets have picked way up since the bye, including 10+ looks each of the past four weeks.
That aspect plus Hurts' lackluster play definitely appear to be working against WR DeVonta Smith.
Although he has still managed 8+ targets each of the past three weeks, Smith posted receiving lines of 5-48 and 4-37 the past two games.
His floor and ceiling come down in the current environment, leaving Smith as more of a low-WR2 to WR3-level consideration for Week 15 lineups.
