ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Miami Dolphins have benched QB Tua Tagovailoa and will start seventh-round rookie Quinn Ewers against the Bengals. The news doesn't come as a shock, following Miami's Monday night loss to Pittsburgh that officially eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention. HC Mike McDaniel opened the door for the move after the game, saying the QB play wasn't good enough and "everything is on the table."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Massive changes are on the way for the Dolphins, who parted ways with GM Chris Grier in October. The team also announced that they have released veteran edge rusher Matt Judon.
Tagovailoa has thrown a league-high 15 INTs and has averaged just 176.2 passing yards in his last five starts.
We're unlikely to see Tagovailoa under center again this season, but his contract complicates his future in Miami. Tagovailoa signed a $212.4 million extension in 2024 and is due $54 million fully guaranteed next season.
Miami will move forward with Ewers this week against the Bengals. The matchup is a positive one, as Cincinnati allows the third-most fantasy points to QBs.
However, Ewers is a seventh-round rookie making his first start. As bad as Tagovailoa has played, it's not a positive move for Miami's receivers.
