Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh announced Monday that QB Justin Herbert won't play in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Broncos. The Chargers sit tied with Houston and Buffalo at 11-5, so there's some potential mobility to their seed with Week 18 results. But Harbaugh has clearly decided that getting Herbert -- and potentially others -- healthier for the playoffs matters more than the difference between the No. 5 and No. 7 seeds.
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
We'll have to see whether the Chargers reveal other resters ahead of Sunday's game. WR Keenan Allen and RB Kimani Vidal were the only fantasy-relevant skill guys to join Herbert on the Week 17 injury report. Vidal missed the game with a neck injury. Allen had merely a Wednesday rest day.
Beware of any Chargers starters you might have been using recently, though. RB Omarion Hampton, in particular, is a mere four games removed from a two-month ankle injury.
Other Winners & Losers
QB Trey Lance will start in Herbert's place.
Lance always brings rushing upside but has proved little across a mere four full NFL starts.
He averaged a nice 50 rushing yards across those contests. Lance has added 212.5 passing yards per game, with just 2 total TDs vs. 3 INTs.
Expect him to land well into QB2 territory of our Week 18 rankings.
