The Washington Commanders have promoted assistant QB Coach David Blough to the team's open offensive coordinator position. Blough’s promotion comes after OC Kliff Kingsbury parted ways with the team. Blough was gaining interest from the Lions as a possible OC candidate, so the Commanders moved quickly to retain him. Blough was an NFL QB from 2019-2023, including the end of his career under HC Dan Campbell with the Lions, but they won’t get the chance to poach him.
What They're Saying
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network: “The Commanders are hiring former NFL QB and rising assistant coach David Blough to be their new offensive coordinator, sources say.
The Lions showed real interest in Blough, and Washington acted fast to hire one of the NFL’s youngest and brightest offensive minds. Big hire”
Adam Schefter of ESPN: “Commanders hired David Blough as their new offensive coordinator. He had interest from Detroit for their OC role, so Dan Quinn acted fast to retain him.”
Fantasy Football Impact
Blough is a young coach which means plenty of unknown about his potential as a play caller and OC. He did play under Ben Johnson, Kevin O’Connell and Kliff Kingsbury as a player and may bring some of those tendencies with him to the Commanders.
His close relationship with QB Jayden Daniels should make the transition fairly smooth. Daniels will likely have a major impact on the offense and work closely with Blough. Blough coaching under Kingsbury could mean the offense keeps a lot of similarities to what we have seen the past two seasons.
We will keep an eye on any news coming out about Blough and how the Commanders’ offense will look in 2026.
