The Cardinals are hiring Mike LaFleur as their new HC, according to multiple reports. Arizona becomes the 10th and final team to fill a head-coaching vacancy this offseason. The Cardinals were in the mix for several other candidates, including Klint Kubiak, who accepted the Raiders’ head job yesterday. In the end, Arizona was the last team without a partner before landing on LaFleur.
Fantasy Football Impact
LaFleur becomes the latest Sean McVay disciple to land a head coaching job, following his brother Matt, Zac Taylor, Kevin O'Connell, and Liam Coen. That quartet has generally fared well, which is promising for the Cardinals going forward.
LaFleur spent the last three seasons as Rams OC but never called plays. He did call plays as OC for the Jets in 2021 and 2022. Both of those teams finished bottom eight in points and total yards, although we'll cut LaFleur some slack considering his QBs were Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco.
Prior to that stint, LaFleur worked under Kyle Shanahan for six years. So he's been molded by some of the best offensive minds in the game -- but remains largely unproven as a play caller (and completely untested as a HC).
Beyond LaFleur, the Cardinals’ biggest fantasy question mark sits at QB. Kyler Murray, signed through 2028, fell out of favor with the previous staff. Whether LaFleur can reset that relationship will go a long way toward determining Arizona’s offensive fantasy outlook in 2026.
