Bills HC Joe Brady talked up a bigger and more diverse role for WR Khalil Shakir. "I think Khalil Shakir can play inside and outside," Brady said from the Combine. "There’s really not a lot of things that Khalil can’t do. There’s definitely ways to get the ball into his hands in different ways, and we have to continue to grow his game because he’s such a huge component to our offense. He’s one of our best football players, and when the ball is in his hand, good things are happening."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Shakir has been pigeonholed as a short-range, slot receiver through four NFL seasons -- particularly the last two. He ranked 82nd among 84 qualifying WRs in average target depth in 2024 and dead last among 76 WRs this past year. Shakir has run 71.5% of his career routes from the slot.
More downfield work would boost his fantasy upside, particularly on a week-to-week basis. But we're hesitant to project a significant role change considering Brady has run Buffalo's offense for the past two seasons.
We'll monitor Shakir's usage throughout training camp and preseason. For now, he remains a much more valuable asset in PPR leagues than in half- or non-PPR formats.
