The Jets are trading Edge Jermaine Johnson to the Titans for DT T'Vondre Sweat, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The swap will officially process once the new league year begins at 4 p.m. on March 11. Johnson arrived as a first-round pick in 2022 and heads into the final year of his rookie contract (the exercised club option). Tennessee drafted Sweat in the second round in 2024. Two years remain on his initial contract. New Titans HC Robert Saleh served in that role for the Jets when they drafted Johnson (and then until New York fired him in the first half of 2024).
What They're Saying
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler: "Johnson has quietly wanted out of New York and targeted a reunion with Titans coach Robert Saleh as one of his preferred options."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
This trade presents limited fantasy impact but will be interesting.
Johnson has yet to live up to his draft capital, with a mere 13 total sacks across his four pro seasons. But he appeared to be trending upward in his second season.
Johnson grew into a full-time starter in 2023 and tripled both his sack total (2.5 to 7.5) and QB hits (5 to 16) vs. his rookie year. The following season, however, found a Week 2 Achilles' tear cutting his campaign way short.
Johnson made it back for the start of 2025 but lost another three games to an early-season ankle injury. He posted a modest 3 sacks, 6 QB hits, and 5 tackles for loss across his 14 appearances.
The Titans undoubtedly expect more going forward. Whether they work out a contract extension ahead of the season should signal their belief.
Johnson will be no more than a late-round IDP flier for 2026 and should probably go undrafted in most fantasy leagues.
Don't Sweat the Other Side
Sweat, meanwhile, isn't likely to ever turn into a meaningful fantasy factor. The 366-pounder has played the run effectively through his two seasons but supplied just 3 total sacks.
He should help a Jets defense that sent DT Quinnen Williams to Dallas in the middle of 2025. But even that help likely won't make much defense for the team defense's fantasy value.
Other Winners & Losers
This trade might indicate the Jets are leaning edge with the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft. This year's class certainly presents value in that area.
