The Bears are releasing LB Tremain Edmunds, according to multiple reports. The move snips the final season of a four-year contract and saves the team about $15 million in cap space. Edmunds started 45 of a possible 51 games across his three years with Chicago.
What They're Saying
ESPN's Courtney Cronin: "The Bears create $15 million in cap space with the release of Tremaine Edmunds, who they granted permission to last Wednesday to seek a trade."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
I included that quote because of the last part. It feels noteworthy that the Bears granted Edmunds permission to seek a trade ... and he found bubkes.
Edmunds snagged 9 INTs over his three Chicago seasons. But he has also earned poor Pro Football Focus coverage grades in seven of his eight campaigns (including all three with the Bears).
Combine that with the lack of trade partners -- ahead of his age-28 season -- and it's fair to wonder how much interest Edmunds will draw in a market with plenty of free-agent LB options and a quality rookie class at the position.
I'd still get he lands a starting gig somewhere else, at least for 2026.
The Bears, meanwhile, create a spot to fill next to LB T.J. Edwards.
