The Texans released RB Joe Mixon, according to multiple reports. Mixon requested the move, and the team probably had no issue obliging considering how the last 12 months played out. Mixon suffered a foot injury away from the team last offseason and missed the entire 2025 campaign. The move saves Houston $8 million in cap space.
What They're Saying
GM Nick Caserio on Mixon back in January: "It was a very unique situation. I don’t think anybody really had any clarity, from the start of the year until now. We’ll have an opportunity to see where he is in the offseason. It was as unique an injury as I’ve been associated with. I don’t want to call it a freak thing, but it was just kind of a freak thing. ... We haven’t seen Joe in a little bit. I think at some point we’ll see him and we’ll be able to evaluate where he is."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
We still don't have any details on Mixon's foot injury, where he's at in his rehab, or if he's on track to play in 2026.
Even if he does suit up, he'll be a 30-year-old coming off a completely lost season. Mixon isn't a great bet for significant fantasy value and isn't worth a pick in best-ball drafts right now.
The Texans look set to move forward with a David Montgomery - Woody Marks backfield committee.
