The Vikings and RB Aaron Jones have agreed to a restructured contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Jones will make $5.6 million this season, including $5 million guaranteed. Schefter reported on March 1 that Minnesota was planning to release Jones, but he'll now be back for his third season with the team.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
That the Vikings were considering releasing Jones -- and that he agreed to a pay cut -- says a lot about where he's at right now.
Jones turned 31 in December and posted career lows last year in:
- Yards per carry
- Rush yards over expected per attempt
- Yards after contact per carry
- Missed tackles forced per carry
- Pro Football Focus rushing grade
That said, Jones played ahead of RB Jordan Mason when both were healthy last year. In those 10 games, Jones averaged 9.3 carries and 3.4 targets per game vs. Mason's 8.3 carries and 0.8 targets.
Mason, though, was the more effective runner, beating Jones in each of those five rushing metrics listed above.
So don't be surprised if Mason leads the Vikings in carries this season. But Jones is a good bet to retain primary pass-catching duties.
It ultimately leaves both guys as unattractive fantasy assets.
