The Jets won't fool anyone into believing they're a 2026 contender. But their offseason moves have installed some interesting players around the defense.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
I already addressed the Minkah Fitzpatrick addition (with a mocking headline) to the secondary. He has already displayed IDP upside with two franchises.
Will That Old LB Ever Go Away?
LB Demario Davis arrives as an interesting signing. He opened his career with the Jets but returns off eight consecutive years as a Saints defensive cornerstone.
Davis' $22 million, two-year deal seems to at least lock him in as a 2026 starter. But he's also 37. But he has also missed just two games across 14 seasons.
Davis remains a perennial good bet at IDP draft cost.
He joins Jamien Sherwood as New York's clear top 2 at the position.
Line Adds Two Starters
The Jets also gave 2026 starter money to Edge Joseph Ossai and DT David Onyemata in free agency.
Onyemata spent the past seven years as a starter: four of those in New Orleans and then three in Atlanta. He offered just modest fantasy scoring, even for a DT.
Ossai spent five years not becoming a full-time starter in Cincinnati, including a mere one-year deal when he hit free agency last offseason.
He posted a strong finish to 2024 but then regressed from that level in 2025, despite opportunity presented by injuries to Trey Hendrickson and first-round rookie Shamar Stewart.
There's some intriguing talent to Ossai, but he'll need to prove he can turn that into numbers at his second NFL stop.
