Chiefs HC Andy Reid said Saturday that QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) is on track to participate in the team's first OTA sessions from May 26-28. That'll be about 5.5 months after Mahomes had surgery to repair the ACL and LCL in his left knee. Mahomes has been throwing since at least late March, when he posted a video of himself working out on social media.
What They're Saying
Reid on the plan for Mahomes in OTAs: "He is in a good position to be able to do some things. If he can do some things, [he'll do it]. Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact and there's no offense versus defense. It's Phase 3 that you get into that. ... He's in a position where he can do everything, I think."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
We'll see exactly how much Mahomes does later this month, but he's obviously still not cleared for full participation.
If he's already back on the field in May, though, it's tough to believe that he won't be out there come Week 1.
We'd previously projected Mahomes to miss the opener but now have him in there for all 17 games. We are, however, still projecting his rushing to be limited coming off the major knee injury. And that was a big part of Mahomes' 2025 fantasy production. In fact, a career-high 22.0% of his fantasy points last year came via rushing.
Despite the positive news on his health, we still wouldn't treat Mahomes as more than a low-end QB1 at this point of the offseason.
