You might remember that then-Patriots WR Stefon Diggs got arrested late last season on felony charges of strangulation and assault related to an early December incident. Diggs' trial started Monday, and that case likely plays a large role in both why Diggs currently has no team and when/whether that might change.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk: "The trial is expected to last a couple of days. The prosecution's case largely hinges on the testimony of the alleged victim, who claims that Diggs assaulted and strangled her during an argument over an unpaid bill for her personal chef services. ... Some teams could be waiting to see how the trial goes, since a conviction would undoubtedly result in a suspension under the NFL's personal-conduct policy."
It's easy to understand why teams would be waiting given the trial start more than two months away from training camps opening. We'll see, of course, exactly how long the proceedings last and whether the jury finds Diggs guilty.
The veteran wideout remained an effective player last season. But he's also 32 and well below the performance level of earlier in his career. That makes taking a chance on Diggs (and his off-field stuff) less attractive for teams, which always need to consider public perception to at least some degree.
We obviously can't project Diggs' fantasy value for 2026 (or beyond) right now. But if you're drafting, make sure you factor in the possibility that he doesn't play at all in the coming season.
