New Eagles OC Sean Mannion is expected to have QB Jalen Hurts under center more often this season. Philadelphia's 76.3% shotgun rate last year was seventh highest in the league. RB Saquon Barkley sounds excited to take more carries on under center snaps. And the numbers say that it should boost his 2026 production.
What They're Saying
Barkley on run plays with his QB under center: "You can see it more clear. You're not blinded (like) in 'gun. You're able to get your shoulders square easier. ...You can get downhill a little quicker. You can threaten them with stretches and outside zone a little more. There's a lot of things you can do. It's no secret what this system is about. Look forward to doing it. Probably the most I've ever done it."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Although most of his runs with the Eagles have come from shotgun or pistol formations, Barkley has been more efficient on under-center plays.

The splits were especially drastic last year: 4.9 yards per carry under center vs. just 3.5 on shotgun and pistol snaps.
We'll be closely tracking what this Mannion offense looks like throughout the summer. He has no experience calling plays at any level, giving this entire offense a relatively wide range of outcomes this season.
But we know that Barkley will get big volume. And Philadelphia's offensive line remains strong when healthy.
If more under-center snaps boost Barkley's efficiency, he could be in for a big bounce-back season.
