Colts WR Alec Pierce had a second platelet-rich plasma injection into his left ankle in June, according to multiple reports. Pierce reportedly got the first such treatment back in January but still needed surgery in March. The PRP treatment is meant to accelerate healing.
What They're Saying: Second Treatment Either No Big Deal ... or a Big Deal
Mike Chappell of Fox 59 in Indianapolis: "As has been reported, Colts WR Alec Pierce did indeed have a second PRP injection in left ankle in late June. He first had a platelet-rich plasma treatment in Jan. with hope of avoiding surgery, which took place in March. Source said 2nd treatment not abnormal and helps healing process."
Jeff Mueller, physical therapist and injury analyst for Fantasy Points: "Getting another PRP is indicative of lack of healing. He's still limping and has calf atrophy, so my concern grows that he's months (not weeks) away, without having further info. Not good."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Getting Tougher to Count on Pierce
We're all obviously guessing at when Pierce will return to the field and how close he'll be to full strength when he does. HC Shane Steichen's resistance against laying out a return timeline hasn't made it any easier to stay optimistic.
We're now just a month (and two days, as of this writing) away from opening Sunday against Baltimore. I'd have to bet against Pierce being ready for that contest.
Beyond that? He seems like at least a candidate to open the regular season on the physically unable to perform list. That would cost Pierce at least the first four games.
We'll keep watching the situation, of course. And that includes watching to see whether Indy makes any significant addition to the WR corps.
