Sam LaPorta Headshot

Lions HC Dan Campbell said Thursday that TE Sam LaPorta is dealing with a hip injury after taking a hit in practice earlier this week. The injury doesn't sound serious, but Campbell admitted he's not sure if it'll impact LaPorta's Week 1 availability, per insider Tim Twentyman.

What They're Saying

Campbell on LaPorta's hip: "It flared up a little bit. It's a little aggravated. But we feel good long term about him. We're resting him for a little bit here and letting it calm down."

The good news is that this seemingly isn't related to LaPorta's back injury that required surgery late last year. And the hip injury doesn't sound too serious.

But Detroit's opener vs. the Saints is just 24 days away, so even a minor injury could affect his Week 1 availability.

We're not changing LaPorta's baseline projection but are docking his floor projection a bit, moving him down the TE rankings.

We'll keep you updated on his status.
