The Lions and Bills combined for 72 points on Thursday night, but WR Jameson Williams was left out. He caught just 2 of 4 targets for 33 yards. Williams caught a 16-yarder late in the second quarter to help set up a FG. His second catch didn’t come until garbage time with just 2 minutes left and the Lions down 10. Williams did also draw a defensive holding penalty on a nice route on a 4th-and-8 in the fourth quarter.

That’s 2 straight disappointing outings from Williams, following his 4-45-0 line in the opener.
He simply didn’t play well in Week 1, committing 2 drops and botching a handoff.
Volume was the problem in Week 2: Williams’ 4 targets ranked fifth among Lions and accounted for just a 10.5% target share.
The good news is that Williams’ playing time remained strong. He ran a route on 42 of 44 pass plays after registering a 95% route rate in the opener.
This is what you get with Williams: He’s a big-play reliant WR fighting for touches with RB Jahmyr Gibbs, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, and TE Sam LaPorta. There will be more quiet games the rest of the way.
But there will also be big games. Williams is talented and a full-time player. He’ll also benefit from a pathetic Lions defense that has coughed up 71 points and 815 total yards through 2 games. That has QB Jared Goff averaging 38.5 pass attempts, well up from last year’s 34.0.
The Lions will throw for a lot of yards and score a lot of points this season. And Williams will be a big part of the attack, despite what we’ve seen these first 2 weeks.
