Cameron Skattebo Headshot

RB Cam Skattebo didn’t touch the ball in Week 6, playing just 6 snaps after falling to fourth on the depth chart. He said the benching was punishment for his fumbles last week and that he has to be better. He has fumbled four times in his last five games and lost his first one in Week 5. His final offensive snap came late in the second quarter.

Skattebo had played 67% of snaps as the lead back over the previous three weeks. In Week 5 he ran 13 times for 59 yards and caught 2 passes for 12 yards (RB33). His replacements weren’t any better. Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary and Najee Harris combined for 14 carries for 34 yards (2.4 yards per carry). Tracy salvaged an RB7 finish with a rushing TD and a receiving TD, and Harris played just two snaps after his first four drives.

The drive-by-drive usage shows how the Giants moved on. Najee Harris was the early-down back on three of the first four drives, with Tyrone Tracy on third downs. All four backs got snaps on the second possession, which is where most of Skattebo’s work came. From the fifth series on, Devin Singletary, a healthy inactive in recent weeks, played 28 snaps to Tracy’s 15. Singletary led the RBs with 23 routes, and New York could still trade for a back like James Conner or Tony Pollard.

Skattebo could certainly be brought back into the fold, especially with how awful  the Giants’ run game was with the other runners (outside of Tracy’s TDs). So don’t cut him from your roster quite yet. We will hopefully learn more about Skattebo’s future role in the next few days.

Houston allows the second-fewest adjusted PPR points to RBs (16.1) and ranked fourth in run defense power heading into Week 6 (-27.0 rush DVOA). Philadelphia allows the 15th-most points to RBs after the Giants’ Week 8 bye. This is a backfield to avoid until a lead back emerges. Skattebo is a bench stash for now.
