Jordan Mason Headshot

The Vikings have designated RB Jordan Mason to return to practice. That clears him to practice Wednesday for the first time since landing on IR with a thumb fracture after Week 1. The team will still need to activate Mason from IR before he can play.

Given that Mason was out to have his thumb repaired, I'm guessing he'll be ready to play rather than needing to get back into shape or even test the thumb this week to see if it's ready. But we'll obviously need to watch for confirmation from the team this week.

Designating a player to return does give the team three weeks to let him practice before making a decision on activation.

If Mason returns for Sunday's game, he'll get a favorable matchup with a Colts D that ranks 31st in rush DVOA. He'll be in play for non-PPR lineups at least if ready to go.

Expect Aaron Jones, meanwhile, to lose rushing work. Mason carried 15 times to Jones' 12 in the season opener.
