Najee Harris Headshot

RB Najee Harris will be released by the New York Giants according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. This comes on the heels of a loss to the Saints, in which open week starter Cam Skattebo played only 6 snaps with no touches in the game. Harris played 11 snaps with 4 rushes for 2 yards. Devin Singletary (31) and Tyrone Tracy (29) led the team in snaps. No RB hit 20 rushing yards in the game. Harris could certainly get another chance to make a roster for an RB-needy team with injuries.

What They're Saying: A Backfield Hits Boiling Point

Ian Rapoport, NFL.com: “Source: The Giants are releasing RB Najee Harris, another RB shakeup.”

Najee Harris: “It’s hard to get in a rhythm with one or two plays. The first couple runs will be like, ‘OK, how are they playing it?’ And then the next ones will be, ‘OK, this is how you attack it.’ But if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do. That’s why I’m saying, ‘I don’t know.’ I’ve never been through none of this before.”

HC John Harbaugh: “I do understand it, respect it. Also understand that that's earned. I would love for us to be in that kind of a circumstance, a Derrick Henry circumstance or the Saquon Barkley circumstance … that would be great. Our run game hasn't earned that yet. None of those guys have. My advice would be to any player…Do the most you can with the opportunities you get. Make the most of those opportunities, and you're sure to get more opportunities.”

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Giants Backfield Stays Muddy

Harris' criticism of the RB rotation may have played a part in his release.

The Giants RB situation remains messy, even with Harris now off the team.

Skattebo should have a chance to earn back the starting role, but the team will clearly lean a bit into both Tracy and Singletary going forward.

None profile as particularly good fantasy options until this is sorted out. The rushing was incredibly inefficient this past week. Skattebo can still be held on your bench in hopes he can regain the bulk of the carries.

We'll keep an eye on news about the Giants’ RB rotation. Next week brings a stout Texans defense, followed by the Giants’ bye week.
