Gainwell had his best game of the season in the blowout, rushing 14 times for 88 yards with a long run of 29. He didn’t see a target and finished as RB31 for the week. Before garbage time, he handled 33% of the RB opportunities and 33% of the rush attempts. He also played 45% of third-down snaps and 29% of two-minute snaps. Gainwell left the game with a hip injury, so his status is worth monitoring this week.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
This usage was far out of line with the rest of his season. Gainwell hadn’t topped 5 carries in any of his first six games, and his 88 rushing yards this week were more than his previous six games combined (61). On the season, he has 149 rushing yards on 33 carries, plus 12 catches for 61 yards and a TD. The bigger role here was largely a product of the Buccaneers running 49 times in a lopsided game. In more normal game scripts, Bucky Irving should take back most of the backfield work.
The Buccaneers host Atlanta in Week 8, visit Chicago in Week 9 and then have their bye. Heading into Week 7, the Falcons ranked 12th in fantasy points allowed to RBs (22.62 per game), while the Bears allowed the third-fewest (17.02). Gainwell is a handcuff to Irving, not a standalone fantasy option. Don’t chase this one game, especially with the hip injury.
