TE Rob Gronkowski tells NFL insider Jordan Schultz that he's retiring. It's only June, of course, so there's plenty of time for Gronk to change his mind. In fact, he "retired" back in 2019 before eventually returning with QB Tom Brady and the Bucs in 2020. So we're not completely ruling out another season from Gronkowski. But he'd be tough to draft as more than a last-pick flier right now. Losing Gronk would be a big blow to a Bucs offense that lost WR Antonio Brown and has WR Chris Godwin iffy for the start of the season after tearing his ACL in December. TEs Cameron Brate and rookie Cade Otton are next up on Tampa's depth chart.

Update: Gronkowski confirmed his retirement on his Instagram. But his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, isn't totally buying it. “It would not surprise me if Tom Brady calls him during the season to come back and Rob answers the call," Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Schefter. "This is just my opinion but I wouldn’t be surprised if Rob comes back during the season or next season.”

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (back) is out for Sunday's game vs. Washington. HC Bruce Arians said earlier this week that Gronk is 2-3 weeks away from being back to 100%. TEs Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard have basically been splitting work with Gronkowski out, leaving them both as just TE2s.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski is "considered a game-time decision" for today's game against the Saints. "One source described optimism" for Gronk's chances of playing, Rapoport adds.

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Bears. HC Bruce Arians has been saying that Gronk is close to returning for 2 weeks now, but don't be surprised if he also misses Week 8. The Bucs have a Week 9 bye. With Gronkowski out the past 3 weeks, TEs O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate have both totaled 11 targets. Howard out-targeted Brate 7 to 4 last week, though, and is the superior Week 7 fantasy play.

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice. He seems unlikely to return for this weekend's game vs. the Bears. TE O.J. Howard (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Thursday and figures to split pass-catching duties with TE Cameron Brate again on Sunday.

The Buccaneers have ruled TE Rob Gronkowski out for Thursday night's game against the Eagles with his rib injury and assortment of adjacent damage. That will keep Cameron Brate as their top receiving option at the position. It'll be Gronk's 3rd straight missed game.

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs, lung) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Dolphins. His status for Week 6 and beyond is uncertain. Cameron Brate gets another game as Tampa’s lead TE this weekend. He ran a route on 69% of pass plays and garnered 6 targets last week.

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski remained sidelined for Wednesday's practice. Reportedly dealing with 4 cracked ribs, 1 broken rib and a punctured lung, he seems unlikely to play this weekend vs. Miami. Cameron Brate operated as Tampa's lead TE with Gronk out last week, running a route on 69% of pass plays and tallying 6 targets.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski has 2 cracked ribs and is in danger of missing at least 1 more game beyond Week 4. Initial X-rays reportedly failed to reveal the issue, but doctors found 2 hairline fractures on re-examination. Cameron Brate ranked 2nd among Tampa TEs in playing time and drew 4 targets against the Rams in Week 3 and looks like the better fantasy bet over O.J. Howard while Gronk is out

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) didn't travel with the team to New England and is out for Sunday night's game vs. the Patriots. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 5. TE Cameron Brate has run more routes than TE O.J. Howard (54 to 14) and seen more targets (6 to 2) through 3 weeks, so he's the preferred fantasy play if you need a Bucs TE.

Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's game vs. the Patriots. He didn't practice all week. It's a surprise after reports that Gronk was on track to play in this one. He obviously should be on fantasy benches now. We'll let you know if his status changes. TEs Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard figure to split pass-catching duties with Gronkowski out, leaving both guys as unreliable fantasy plays.

Buccaneers TE O.J. Howard returned to the practice field at the end of July, but that doesn't mean he's all the way back physically, coming off the Achilles' tendon tear that ended his 2020 season. “He’s not there yet," HC Bruce Arians said in his Monday press conference. "He had a chance to make a couple grimy chances in the end zone today [and] didn’t come up with them. I expect him to make those. He’s still catching up to the speed of it and the physicality of it. He’s been out a long time, so he needs this camp.” Howard remains a later-round flier in all formats, so it's easy to take on the risk that he doesn't rebound all the way. The upside, of course, is that he does get back close to 100% of his previous level and takes the receiving lead among Tampa Bay TEs. We'll see how he progresses through the rest of camp and preseason.

The Buccaneers announced Monday that they have activated TE Cameron Brate off the PUP list. The team never announced what the injury was. Regardless, Brate figures to run 3rd at the position until and unless Rob Gronkowski or O.J. Howard goes down.

Bucs TE Cameron Brate has been placed on the active PUP list to begin training camp. No word on his injury or how long he'll be out. Brate figures to be Tampa's #3 TE this season behind Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard, so he's off the fantasy radar.

Bucs TE Cameron Brate (back) is active for the Super Bowl. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and then didn’t practice on Friday. Brate has caught 11 of 16 targets in Tampa’s 3 playoffs wins, but there’s a chance that he’s limited tonight.

Bucs TE Cameron Brate (back) is questionable for the Super Bowl. After being added to the injury report on Thursday, he didn't practice on Friday. We'll get Brate's game status around 5 pm ET on Sunday. His absence would mean a boost in projections for both TE Rob Gronkowski and WR Antonio Brown.

Bucs TE Cameron Brate was added to Thursday's injury report as limited with a back. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Brate is dealing with "discomfort" and was pulled from practice "out of an abundance of caution." It sounds like he'll be fine for the Super Bowl, but check back Friday afternoon for another update.

Bucs TE O.J. Howard will miss the rest of the season with his Achilles injury, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. Howard had been playing a significant role, tallying 19 targets through 4 games. His absence should mean more action for TEs Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate, plus Tampa's WRs.

Bucs HC Bruce Arians called '12' personnel his "base offense" on Thursday. ('12' personnel means 1 RB, 2 WRs and 2 TEs.) The Bucs went '12' on 23% of their snaps last season -- the 8th highest rate in the league. Over the past 2 seasons, only 1 team (the 2019 Eagles) has gone '12' on more than 36% of their snaps. We'll buy the Bucs using more 2-TE looks this year after adding Rob Gronkowski to O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate. But don't expect it to be their most common alignment. It's still unlikely that more than 1 of those TEs is a reliable fantasy option. The other result of more 2-TE sets will be more snaps outside the numbers for WR Chris Godwin. That might ding his volume a tad but shouldn't be a big concern overall. Godwin was actually more efficient outside the numbers last season, averaging 2.27 yards per route run vs. 2.22 in the slot.
