Cowboys HC Jason Garrett said Tuesday that WR Cole Beasley will see increased snaps on the outside this season, according to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic. At 5'8, 180 pounds, Beasley carries a classic slot build. Garrett said, however, that Beasley has had "a lot of success at different times as an outside receiver." The key takeaway here is that Dallas coaches are finding snaps for Beasley. He's not going to morph into a killer boundary wideout, but he seems like a solid bet to reach (and exceed) 60% of season offensive snaps played for the 1st time in his career.

The Cowboys are expected to release WR Dez Bryant, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer. We've heard whispers about this for a while now. Dallas reportedly wants Bryant to take a pay cut from the $12.5 million he's scheduled to earn this year and next -- and the mercurial WR evidently isn't willing to oblige. The 2 sides are meeting today, but a divorce is expected "barring an unexpected last-minute change of heart," Schefter tweets. Bryant's production has crated since 3-straight seasons of 1,200+ yards from 2012 to 2014. Over the past 3 years, he's totaled just 150 catches for 2,035 yards and 17 TDs across 38 appearances. He seemingly struggled to get on the same page as QB Dak Prescott, corralling just 52.2% of his targets over the last 2 seasons. Bryant is still just 29, so there's certainly a chance he bounces back in 2018. We'll see where he lands before assessing his fantasy value. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are left with Terrance Williams, Allen Hurns and Cole Beasley atop their WR depth chart. They figure to be in the market for a rookie WR or 2.

Update: They did.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley has cleared the league concussion protocol and will play today against the Chiefs, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. Beasley's not much of a fantasy option but should be available if he makes sense for your lineup.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley has cleared the concussion protocol and will play against the Chiefs on Sunday. The slot man has averaged just 4.4 targets and 2.6 catches per game this season.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley sustained a concussion in Sunday's game against the Redskins. It's the 1st known head injury of his career. We'll track Beasley's progress through the protocol this week. His absence would mean some more action for rookie Ryan Switzer in the slot.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley is dealing with what the team's doctors believe is hamstring tendinitis. It's been an issue since Week 10 of last season. "It's not concerning because I've been able to play through it. That makes me feel better about it," Beasley said. "I really don't think my hamstring will pull. I can't explain what it feels like, but if I go out there and run full speed it's not going to just go. I played with it for six weeks and in the playoffs and did everything in workouts. Because it hasn't gone away that's why we haven't done anything the past couple of weeks. I would love to play without it being there." Beasley indeed played the Cowboys' final 7 games (including playoffs) last year, averaging 3.7 catches and 41 yards. That was down significantly from his 5.3 catches and 59 yards over his first 10 games, but it's certainly worth noting that WR Dez Bryant missed 3 of those games. The hamstring issue doesn't impact Beasley's fantasy stock at this point, but he's not much of an option anyway.

The Cowboys selected North Carolina WR Ryan Switzer in the 4th round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The 5'9, 181-pounder tested as a 26th percentile athlete, so there's not much to get excited about from that standpoint. Switzer displays plenty of burst and quickness on tape, though, and broke out with a 96-1,112-6 line as Mitchell Trubisky's #1 WR this past year. He'll be no more than a slot receiver at the next level and will begin his career backing up Cole Beasley. Beasley is signed through 2018.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley drew his largest target total in 4 games in Sunday night's loss to the Giants. Beasley's 7 looks tied Jason Witten for 2nd on the team, as did his 4 receptions. The game marked the 8th time in 9 weeks that he has caught 4+ balls and 9th time through 12 games.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is inactive for today’s game against the Packers. He’s expected back after the Week 7 bye. Terrance Williams, Brice Butler and Cole Beasley will again serve as Dallas’ top 3 WRs today.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) didn’t practice all week but is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bengals. It’s the same boat he was in last week when he ended up inactive. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport called Bryant “unlikely” to play. Dallas-Cincinnati doesn’t kick off until 4:25 pm ET, but Bryant should be on fantasy benches. His absence would leave Brice Butler, Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley as the Cowboys’ top 3 WRs.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers. The team has seemingly been over-optimistic about Bryant's status. There's a good chance he misses multiple games with the hairline fracture in his knee. Terrance Williams and Brice Butler will serve as Dallas' outside WRs this weekend, with Cole Beasley in the slot. Beasley and TE Jason Witten are the best target bets.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is not expected to play against the 49ers on Sunday. He's likely looking at a multi-week absence. We've removed Bryant from the Week 4 Rankings, lowered QB Dak Prescott and given bumps up to Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and Jason Witten.

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot, ankle) didn't practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills.  Dallas might be ready to shut its star down for the year.  WR Cole Beasley (knee, illness) is questionable for Week 16.  That leaves Terrance Williams as Dallas' likely top WR, but he'd be a desperation fantasy play.

Cowboys HC Jason Garrett has named QB Kellen Moore the starter for Sunday's game against the Bills.  Stepping in for QB Matt Cassel on Saturday night, Moore completed 15 of 25 passes for 158 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs.  He's obviously not a fantasy option.  More relevant: Moore targeted WR Dez Bryant 7 times (4 catches, 1 TD), Jason Witten 4 times (4 catches) and Cole Beasley 7 times (3 catches).

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant will undergo foot surgery on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.  He'll have a screw inserted to repair a break in his 5th metatarsal.  That's the long bone of the pinkie toe.  Dallas is pegging Bryant's rehab timeline at 4-6 weeks, but that might be optimistic.  Dr. David Chao, a former NFL head team physician, believes that a "more realistic estimate might be 6-8 weeks."  Bryant owners shouldn't be counting on Bryant before the Cowboys come out of their Week 6 bye.  Terrance Williams will step in as Dallas' #1 WR while Bryant is out, making him a weekly WR3 with upside.  Cole Beasley, Jason Witten and Lance Dunbar should also see targets boosts.

The Cowboys re-signed WR Cole Beasley to a 4-year deal worth $13.6 million.  It's a fair deal for a guy who has emerged as a reliable short-range, slot receiver.  Beasley has totaled 76 catches on 104 targets (73% catch rate) over the past 2 seasons.  He's averaged just 10.4 yards per catch, though, and scored only 6 TDs.  Beasley is much more valuable to the Cowboys than he is to fantasy teams.

Cowboys WRs coach Derek Dooley says Cole Beasley will play an expanded role this season.  “We’re moving him around a little bit. He’s going to have to play some outside,” Dooley said. “But he’s really expanded his route inventory, so because of that, he’s going to be a much better player than he was last year. And he was really valuable to us last year.”  Beasley hauled in an impressive 75% of his targets in 2013 and committed just 1 drop, according to Pro Football Focus.  But he averaged just 9.4 yards per catch with 2 TDs.  And he ran 92.5% of his routes from the slot.  We're skeptical that the 5'8, 177-pounder can make an impact on the outside.  And as the 4th or 5th option in the passing game, Beasley will struggle for consistent production.  He's just a late-round option in PPR fantasy leagues.
