Frank Gore (neck) was held out Friday but he is listed as probable. While he and Mike Singletary argue over whether it's a strained neck or a concussion, you go ahead and start Gore vs. St. Louis. He's on pace for 1,300 rushing yards (his 3rd straight 1,000-yard season) and will not miss this game.

ESPN's Michael Smith says his source tells him 49ers HC Mike Nolan "will be coaching his last game Sunday vs. Seattle."  Smith says Asst. head coach Mike Singletary will take over. The 49ers have lost 4 in a row and have given up the most points in the NFC.

49ers RT Jonas Jennings (shoulder) is out. Mike Nolan said on FOX Radio that they "hope to have him back in a few weeks." His replacement is ex-Raider Barry Sims. We heard Sims played real well last week though we didn't really pay attention, honestly.

Frank Gore will face an Arizona Cardinals defense without their top-two nose tackles Gabe Watson (ankle) and Alan Branch (knee). They have to move ex-Bengals DE Bryan Robinson to the nose.

Frank Gore carried 8 times for 51 yards in one quarter vs. the Bears. He also caught 2 passes for 19 yards. Gore did fail to bang it in twice from the 1-yard line.  There are mixed opinions on Gore's fantasy worth but we can all agree that he runs like a beast when healthy. His offensive line isn't stocked like Dallas or Minnesota's, but he's good enough to make his own yards. Health is his biggest obstacle.

49ers RB Frank Gore is pumped to be playing under OC Mike Martz. The Mercury News reports that Gore is even more excited about this offense than the one Norv Turner ran in 2006 (Gore set the 49ers' single-season rushing record that year with 1,695 yards). "I'm going to be all over the place," Gore said. I'm going to have fun." Martz seems just as excited: "Any time you can take somebody like Frank and put him out on the perimeter, or get him one-on-one with someone, that is what you want. You want to put Frank in an environment where he can get the ball away from the pack because his open-field running is pretty special."

49ers RB Frank Gore talked to future Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk about the new offense Mike Martz is implementing. “Marshall told me not to worry about people talking about how he throws the ball, that I’ll be featured and that I’ll love this offense,” said Gore. “He offered to come out and help me if I needed anything, but that the main thing for me is to show Coach how much I love the game, and to really learn the offense and every position on the field." We all know a healthy Gore will rush for 1,200+ yards but it's the potential reception totals that are enticing.  Faulk once averaged a whopping 83 catches over a 4-year span in this offense. Whew! Gore's already been in the 50-60 catch range for 2 years, but 80+ would be huge fantasy fuel.

The San Francisco 49ers didn't make any trades in the draft and just made sensible picks when it was their turn. 3 of their first 4 picks were offensive or defensive linemen, which are their two biggest needs. They got DE Kentwan Balmer in the 1st and OG Chilo Rachal in the 2nd.  Both players are considered decent choices at their slots (#29 and #39). Since 49ers RG David Baas tore his right pectoral muscle last week we might be seeing Rachal start the season opener. C Cody Wallace (Texas A&M) is viewed as a sleeper in the 4th round. ESPN's Mel Kiper said their 7th round pick, LB Larry Grant (Ohio State), could be a valuable special-teams ace and play either LB or safety.

ESPN.com reports: "The Detroit Lions are expected to fire offensive coordinator Mike Martz after Sunday's season finale against Green Bay. The Lions will replace the veteran coach with receivers coach Kippy Brown. Martz's expected ouster was first reported by The Los Angeles Times. The little blotch on Martz's resume shouldn't be enough, however, to keep him unemployed for long, The Times said. Martz will likely be pursued by the struggling San Francisco 49ers as a replacement for current offensive coordinator Jim Hostler. The 49ers are apparently turning to Martz because of his familiarity with the NFC West and successful pedigree as coach of the St. Louis Rams."

The 49ers are scheduling an interview with former Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey for their open offensive coordinator job. Gailey was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 98-99 and took them to the playoffs twice but was regarded as a failure since Dallas had won 3 Super Bowls in the previous 6 seasons. Gailey has a history with 49ers HC Mike Nolan as they both worked for the Denver Broncos in 1987.

49ers RB Frank Gore is active today but faces a solid Tampa Bay run defense. He's still a solid start, though.

As expected, 49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) is active tonight. He has a solid matchup against the Bengals, who rank 23rd in the league against the run.

49ers RB Frank Gore rushed for a season-high 138 yards on 29 carries vs. Cincy, despite limping off the field three different times with the same ankle injury. Gore's 10-yard run on 3rd-and-9 at the 2:00 warning iced the game when the Bengals couldn't call timeout. Gore has 919 yards (and 5 TDs) on the season so he'll make his 1,000 yards - but it's a far cry from delivering on his 1st-round fantasy status.

49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday. He'll start. Gore has played 90 of the team's last 119 offensive snaps and his ankle will last through the season unless he re-sprains it again.

49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) is probable after a full practice on Friday. Even with his tepid ankle-ridden stats this year, and this tough matchup vs. the Vikings, we can't imagine anyone benching him in 12-team leagues.

49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) did a complete practice Friday and is listed as probable. A lot of you with locked Thursday lineups are relieved to hear this. If you still have a decision to make this news should help Gore's campaign.

9:09pm EDT 5/3/10

As expected, 49ers RB Frank Gore is active today vs. the Cardinals. In Gore's 1st matchup with Arizona, he ran for just 55 yards on 18 carries but did score a TD.

ESPN.com reports that 49ers RB Frank Gore will start tonight against Seattle. This is not official yet, so wait until inactives come out around 7:30 PM to make a final decision regarding your lineup.

RB Frank Gore is active tonight and will get the start for San Francisco. RBs Maurice Hicks and Michael Robinson are both expected to spell Gore from time to time.
