Frank Gore Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Most Recent Fantasy Football News & Updates

Colts QB Andrew Luck (shoulder) is out for today's game against the Jaguars, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.  There's no structural damage to his throwing shoulder, but the team must not have liked what it saw when Luck threw on Saturday.  We'll see if he can get ready in time for Thursday's game in Houston.  His absence today means that the 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck will make his first start since 2012.  Despite plenty of weapons and a favorable matchup, Hasselbeck is a low-end QB2.  He also pulls down the ceiling of all of Indy's pass-catchers. Expect to see lots of RB Frank Gore today.

Colts RB Frank Gore was sidelined in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's opener with what the team is calling calf cramps.  He's officially questionable to return.  Rookie RB Josh Robinson is Gore's backup.

Update: Gore returned in the 4th quarter.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano said Wednesday that RB Frank Gore will be on a "pitch count" this season.  The statement figures to get more fantasy attention than it should. Gore doesn't need 20+ touches per game to post strong fantasy numbers in an efficient, high-scoring Colts offense.  And keeping an eye on his workload is good news for the 32-year-old's 2nd half outlook.  Gore remains a weekly RB2 with RB1 upside.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano praised RB Frank Gore's play early in training camp.  "He looks great," Pagano said.  "When everybody else is in the offseason traveling to the Bahamas or Aruba and going here and going there and getting on boats and doing things like that, that guy is down in Miami grinding. He takes great care of his body. He's a grinder, but he's got great balance. He's got great vision. He makes great decisions, great reads and he's very decisive."  Some fantasy drafters are shying away from Gore because he turned 32 in May.  But he topped 1,100 yards at 30 and 31 and averaged a solid 4.3 yards per carry last year.  Now Gore is running in 1 of the top offenses in the league.  He's a potential RB1 that you can get in the 3rd or 4th round.

Colts HC Chuck Pagano believes Frank Gore is still capable of serving as an every-down back.  “I don’t think we would’ve gone after him and made the investment and made the decision to bring him in if we didn’t feel that way,” Pagano said. “Based on what we saw on tape, there’s video evidence that he’s more than capable of still being that guy. He’s a tough, hard-nosed, every-down back. He can play all three downs. He’s a great protector in pass-pro. He catches the ball out of the backfield. We all know what he can do as a runner on early downs."  Gore is well beyond traditional feature-back age.  But he already became an exception to the rule by rushing for 1,106 yards at age-31 last year.  Gore won't come without risk in 2015 fantasy football drafts, but there's borderline RB1 upside if he stays healthy and avoids a decline.

RB Frank Gore officially has a new home: Indianapolis. After reportedly having a deal in place with the Eagles, Gore had a change of heart.  We liked his fantasy outlook a bit better in Philly, but he still has a good shot at returning fantasy-starter value with the Colts.  Gore turns 32 in May but had plenty of gas left in the tank last year, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.  He'll be Indy's lead back and should have plenty of TD opportunities on an offense that finished 6th in points this past season.  We'll have more on Gore's 2015 fantasy football outlook in a feature article later this week.

Free-agent RB Frank Gore is now expected to sign with the Colts.  He's currently on his way to Indy on owner Jim Irsay's plane.  The deal is reportedly similar to what the Eagles were offering: 3 years and $12 million with $7.5 million guaranteed.  We'll hold off on considering this official until the contract is signed, but it sure looks like Gore will be teaming up with Andrew Luck.  The soon-to-be 32-year-old would project as the Colts' lead back, potentially ceding passing-down work to Dan Herron.

Free-agent RB Frank Gore is having 2nd thoughts about signing with the Eagles, according to both NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter.  Philadelphia has reportedly already started targeting other RBs in case Gore heads to Indy.  We'd like his fantasy prospects a bit better with the Eagles due to scheme and offensive line talent.  But the Colts would make him the lead back in an offense that finished 6th in points this past year.  Gore would have a good chance at retaining weekly-starter fantasy value in Indy or Philly.  We should find out his new home within the next 48 hours.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that RB Frank Gore will sign with the Eagles when free agency opens.  The 49ers were interested in bringing Gore back, but Philly out-bid them.  The Eagles are reportedly giving Gore $5 million annually with $7 million guaranteed.  Don't expect the 31-year-old to take over LeSean McCoy's workhorse role, but Gore becomes the heavy favorite to lead Philly's 2015 backfield in touches.  He remained effective this past year, averaging 4.3 yards per carry and ranking 13th among RBs in Pro Football Focus' run grades.  HC Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense should help Gore remain a weekly fantasy starter this season.  Meanwhile, the 49ers will hand the backfield reins to Carlos Hyde, who is a major 2015 breakout candidate.

49ers RB Carlos Hyde (back, ankle) is out for Sunday’s finale against the Cardinals. Frank Gore will serve as the feature back but is just a RB3 in fantasy football. He mustered only 10 yards on 6 carries vs. Arizona earlier this season.

6:09pm EST 12/20/14

49ers RB Frank Gore (concussion) is active for tonight’s game against San Diego. Carlos Hyde (back, ankle) won’t play, so Gore’s in a good spot for 15+ touches. Despite a declining skill set, there’s RB2/flex appeal with the veteran.

49ers RB Frank Gore (concussion) is questionable for Saturday night's game against the Chargers.  He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday but still needs to receive full medical clearance to play.  He seems on track to do so, but we'll find out for sure around 7 pm ET on Saturday.  With RB Carlos Hyde (back, ankle) out, Gore will be a strong bet for 15+ carries if he plays.  But the declining 31-year-old would still be just a RB3 in fantasy football lineups.

49ers RB Frank Gore (concussion) was officially limited in Thursday's practice.  HC Jim Harbaugh said afterward that Gore is "on pace to play" against the Chargers on Saturday night.  With RB Carlos Hyde (back, ankle) not expected to play, Gore is a good bet for 15+ touches.  But he's still no more than a RB3 in fantasy football.  He's averaged 3.4 yards per carry in his last 4 games.

49ers RB Frank Gore (concussion) returned to practice on Thursday but sported a no-contact jersey.  Although he's making progress through the league's protocol, he still has a ways to go in order to play against the Chargers on Saturday night.  We'll continue to update his status leading up to that one.  If you need to make a decision on Gore tonight, we'd assume he won't play Saturday.

49ers RB Carlos Hyde (back, ankle) missed his 2nd straight practice on Wednesday and admitted afterward that he doesn't expect to play against the Chargers on Saturday night.  RB Frank Gore (concussion) also remains sidelined and is iffy for that contest.  If Hyde and Gore are out, San Francisco would be left with Alfonso Smith and the newly signed Phillip Tanner.  Neither guy would be a fantasy option.

49ers RB Frank Gore suffered a head injury in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Seahawks.  He'll be checked for a concussion.  His absence will move rookie Carlos Hyde into the feature-back role.

Update: Gore has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out for the rest of the game.

49ers insider Bill Williamson projects about 220 carries for RB Frank Gore this season.  That's a healthy number -- it would have ranked 16th league-wide last year -- but also a significant drop from the 276 Gore racked up in 2013.  In fact, he hasn't dipped below 258 since 2010.  Despite ranking 8th in carries last season, Gore only finished 18th in PPR fantasy points.  A drop to 220 would make it tough for him to produce as more than a RB3 or flex.  Interestingly, we have Gore projected for 221 carries.

Rookie Carlos Hyde could very well be the 49ers' future starting RB.  Frank Gore turns 31 in May and averaged a career-worst 4.1 yards per carry last year.  But insider Matt Maiocco believes Hyde "should get plenty of action [in 2014], especially in short-yardage situations."  San Francisco is loaded at RB with Gore, Hyde, Marcus Lattimore and Kendall Hunter.  We could be looking at a committee attack this season.  Gore still figures to lead the way but might struggle for consistent RB2 value.

The 49ers nabbed RB Carlos Hyde with the 57th pick of the draft.  San Francisco continues to add depth to its backfield in preparation for Frank Gore's eventual retirement.  They now have Hyde, Marcus Lattimore and Kendall Hunter.  Hyde was widely regarded as the top RB in this class.  He's a rocked-up 6'0, 230-pounder and runs like it.  Hyde is a tackle-breaking machine and almost always falls forward.  The question is whether he can succeed in the passing game.  He didn't catch the ball much at Ohio State, but many scouts believe he has the ability to do so.  Hyde will struggle for fantasy value in 2014 but could certainly be the 49ers' starting RB as early as 2015.
