NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the hip injury 49ers RB Frank Gore suffered on Monday night will cost him the remainder of the 2010 season.  The team hasn't made an official announcement yet, so don't drop Gore.  But backup RB Brian Westbrook, who was impressive on Monday against the Cardinals, should be scooped up in all leagues.  RB Anthony Dixon will also see a handful of carries per game, including goal line work.  He's worth a look in TD-heavy formats and deeper leagues.

49ers RB Frank Gore went to the locker room after injuring his hip on the team's first possession of the night.  He returned for the next series, carried once, and then pulled himself from the game.  His return is considered questionable.

It’s looking more and more like RB Frank Gore will be a one-man show in the 49ers backfield this season, according to beat writer Matt Maiocco. Not only is Gore the team’s best runner, he’s also their best pass blocking and pass-catching RB. That became all too evident last season watching Glen Coffee get manhandled in two starts. If Gore can stay healthy, he’s one of the surest bets to hitch your wagon to – if he can stay healthy.

49ers HC Mike Singletary hinted on Thursday that the team may be targeting a RB in this April's draft.  "We can't count on Gore forever," Singletary said.  While Gore's starting job isn't in jeopardy, he could see a decrease in touches if the team spends a 1st or 2nd-round pick on a guy like California RB Jahvid Best or Ole Miss RB Dexter McCluster.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that 49ers LT Joe Staley sprained his knee against Indianapolis. If Staley has to miss time, Gore would be without the team's 2 starting tackles. As good as Gore has been when healthy, this injury would have to hurt his value a bit. It is possible that the team might throw him the ball a little more to get him on the outside more easily.

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Frank Gore is ready to roll this week. His ankle wasn't an issue during the bye week. If you weathered the storm without him, he should have a pretty full gas tank the rest of the way. Glen Coffee didn't do enough to steal many carries from the feature role that Gore currently has.

49ers RB Frank Gore (ankle) resumed practicing in full on Wednesday.  Gore will immediately go back to his role as the 49ers workhorse, seeing at least 20 touches per game.  Insert him back into lineups for a nice matchup with Houston this week.

The 49ers have already ruled RB Frank Gore (ankle) out for Week 5.  He should be ready to return after the team's Week 6 bye.  RB Glen Coffee draws the start again this week and makes a nice play against a struggling Falcons run defense.

Injured San Francisco RB Frank Gore is expected to begin practicing this week. The 49ers have a bye this week but Gore is expected to return to the lineup for San Francisco's Oct. 25th game against Houston.

49ers RB Frank Gore limped off the field after his 1st carry in today's game against the Vikings.  He appeared to aggravate that ankle injury he suffered last week.  His return is questionable.

49ers RB Frank Gore limped off the field with an ankle injury after his 1st carry in today's game against the Vikings. Multiple sources report that he’ll miss at least 2 weeks. NFL Network is calling it the dreaded high ankle sprain, but the 49ers insist it’s just a strain. We’ll learn more on Monday.

49ers RB Frank Gore's MRI revealed a right ankle strain and a right hind foot sprain.  Gore is expected to miss 3 weeks.  The 49ers play the Rams and Falcons the next 2 weeks before a Week 6 bye.  So Gore should only miss 2 contests, although they are both excellent matchups.  RB Glen Coffee will start in his place and should be atop everyone's free-agent wish list this week.

49ers RB Frank Gore was limited in Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury.  The injury isn't expected to keep him out of week 3 action.  Gore will likely be in line for another 20-25 touches against the Vikings on Sunday.

49ers OC Jimmy Raye said Tuesday that his offense will run through RB Frank Gore. “This ballclub is going to be run by No.21. It was never going to be that the lead dog in this race was going to be the quarterback. The bell cow in this operation will be No.21.” Raye has said this several times now. Rookie RB Glenn Coffee was not mentioned at all and isn’t a real threat to Gore’s carries. Gore’s a steal if he falls into the 2nd round.

49ers OC Jimmie Raye has visions of a run-heavy offense. "The ultimate goal in this deal is to try to get the balance, closer to 60-40 run-pass," Raye said Tuesday. "And, if we can maintain the physicality that we have in the run part of it, it will make the other phases of it much easier." This might be ideal considering the 49ers personnel, but will they have enough leads to run the ball so much? RB Frank Gore is set to receive a ton of carries this season, 60-40 split or not.

We’ve been banking on a big workload for 49ers RB Frank Gore this season. But OC Jimmy Raye may have something else in mind. "I see [Gore and rookie RB Glen Coffee] in tandem, working together," Raye said. "I think it is very difficult for one guy to go 16, 18, 20 weeks and carry the load." We wouldn’t put too much stock in this. Coffee will only spell Gore sparingly. Gore is still a good bet for well over 300 touches.

SI.com is reporting that Frank Gore is much trimmer than he was in the May camps. He had shown up 10 pounds overweight last month, but that is no longer an issue. If Gore expects to keep the feature role to himself, he certainly helped his cause.

Frank Gore is a happy man today. OT Joe Staley signed a 6-year deal, so Gore has one of the important pieces in front of him to open holes. A happy OL is a great thing for any stud RB.

According to sfgate.com, Frank Gore will not miss the finesse offense of former OC Mike Martz. This year, Gore will be able to square his shoulders and run downhill. Before Mike Martz came along, Gore had 1,695 yards rushing and a 5.4 YPC. If Gore can stay healthy, he is a lock to be a top-10 RB.

The 49ers signed free-agent OT Marvel Smith (Steelers) to a 2-year deal worth $10.5 million. He'll replace the oft-injured Jonas Jennings, who was just released. Smith's had injury problems (his back) but he can dominate at times. He'll start at right tackle and Joe Staley will be on the left. Nice duo.
