Most Recent Fantasy Football News & Updates

Let's get the bad news out of the way first. Colts RB Jonathan Taylor surprisingly managed just 2.6 yards per carry against a Panthers defense that entered this week allowing 5.1 yards per carry to RBs. Carolina simply won the battle in the trenches, giving Taylor very little running room. Now the good news. Taylor salvaged a fine fantasy outing with five catches for 22 yards and a score. And he dominated backfield work, playing 75% of the offensive snaps and out-touching RB Zack Moss 23 to 7. We'll see where the backfield goes from here, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Taylor play this type of role weekly going forward. Remember that the Colts handed him a three-year, $42 million deal a month ago. Taylor gets a neutral Week 10 matchup vs. the Patriots before a Week 11 bye.

Colts RB Zack Moss (elbow, heel) is active for today’s game vs. the Saints. He only got in a limited practice on Thursday and was reportedly a game-time decision, so it’s safe to assume that Moss will not be at 100% today. That could mean more work for RB Jonathan Taylor.

Colts RB Zack Moss (heel, elbow) "plans to play" vs. the Saints today, "barring no setbacks in pregame warmups," according to insider Jordan Schultz. It sounds like Moss' heel injury is a bigger issue than the elbow. It's certainly possible that he cedes even more work to RB Jonathan Taylor today. Consider Moss a risky RB3 or flex play.

Colts RB Zack Moss "wants to see how his foot feels once he puts pressure on it in pre-game warmups before deciding whether he can play vs. the Saints" today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Moss is officially questionable with heel and elbow injuries after only getting in a limited practice on Thursday. It's safe to assume he'll be at less than 100% if he does end up active later today.

Colts RB Zack Moss (elbow, heel) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Saints. He only got in a limited practice on Thursday, so he seems legitimately iffy. Moss’ absence would obviously be a big boost for RB Jonathan Taylor.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor matched Zack Moss at 18 carries apiece in Sunday's loss to the Browns. Taylor turned his into 75 yards (4.2 per rush) and a TD, while Moss went for 57 yards (3.2). Taylor also tallied 3 receptions for 45 yards on 4 targets, while Moss posted just a 1-5 receiving line on 2 targets. Taylor's performance looks like another big step toward making him someone we can start weekly in fantasy.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor ran even with Zack Moss in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. He edged Moss 8-7 in carries, gaining just 19 yards as Indy got nothing going on the ground in the lopsided defeat. Taylor grabbed 5 receptions for 46 yards on 6 targets, though. He trailed Moss by just 1 target and catch while beating him in yardage. Taylor is likely trending toward leading the backfield in work in Week 7, which will be his third game since returning from the PUP list. Unfortunately, a matchup with Cleveland's league-best defense doesn't look good for any Colts.

The Colts will ramp up RB Jonathan Taylor's work in practice this week, HC Shane Steichen said. "This will be a full week of practice, which is going to be really huge because especially today on Wednesday, you're in pads, you're able to get a lot of those high-speed reps in and really work on your craft," Taylor said. "You can definitely work on the details when you have shells and helmets, but it's different when you put those pads on. So it'll be a big week to be able to continue to progress." We assume more work in practice will mean more work on Sunday. Taylor was out-carried 23 to 6 by RB Zack Moss last week. Expect that gap to close against the Jaguars this weekend -- although we're still projecting Moss to lead in carries.

Sunday's return by Colts RB Jonathan Taylor didn't stop RB Zack Moss from getting workhorse usage and posting big fantasy numbers against the Titans. Moss racked up 165 yards and 2 TDs on 23 carries, vs. just 6 attempts for Taylor. Moss added 30 yards on 2 receptions, with Taylor going 1-16 receiving on 1 target. Moss' big strike came from 56 yards out in the first quarter. but he also scored from the 3-yard line in the middle of the third quarter. We got indications before the game that Indy would ease Taylor back in. This drastic split in Moss' favor, though, has to make you wary of expecting too much for Taylor in Week 6 at Jacksonville. That said, the Colts didn't extend Taylor at $14 million a year to make him Moss' sidekick. So Taylor's slow start could extend the "buy" opportunity on the star back for at least one more week -- both in redraft and dynasty. Moss, on the other hand, looks like a potential "sell" across formats, especially if another manager in your league has Taylor and might be panicking.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is active for today’s game vs. the Titans. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported over the last 24 hours that Taylor won’t get a full workload in his 2023 debut. This is also a challenging matchup against Tennessee’s fourth-ranked RB defense. See where Taylor sits in the Week 5 RB Rankings.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo confirms a previous report that Colts RB Jonathan Taylor will not get a full workload in his 2023 debut vs. the Titans today. "Expect a split between him and Zack Moss today as they ease Taylor back into action in his first game back," Garafolo tweets. We don't expect it to be a 50/50 split between the two. But it's clear that Taylor won't play his usual workhorse role today. See how we project the Colts' Week 5 backfield.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini hears that the Colts will have RB Jonathan Taylor "on a count and ramp up his workload over the next month." It's not a surprise considering Taylor hasn't played in a game since December and didn't practice all offseason. Taylor sits in low RB2 territory in the Week 5 Rankings. But he figures to climb into the RB1 discussion over the next few weeks.

The Colts officially activated RB Jonathan Taylor from the PUP list Saturday, but then quickly topped that with bigger news. Taylor has agreed to a three-year, $42 million extension with the team. That obviously ends all the drama that clouded Taylor's 2023 outlook and locks him in as Indy's workhorse. There might be some risk to starting him in fantasy lineups right away, given lingering ankle trouble this summer. A matchup with Tennessee's tough run defense makes it an even tougher spot. But expect Taylor to quickly return to weekly starter status in an offense that has recently supported RB1 weeks for Zack Moss. Check our Week 5 RB rankings to see where Taylor has settled in.

The Colts list RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Titans. He was a full participant in practice all week, and Taylor said the ankle is no longer an issue. It sure looks like he's ready to play this weekend, but the team has been mum on his status. We'll keep you updated on the situation and get Indianapolis' inactives around 11:30 am ET on Sunday.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor confirmed on Thursday that his surgically repaired ankle is no longer an issue. “It feels really good to be healthy," Taylor said. "The main goal was to be healthy and play football.” He didn't go into details about the off-the-field stuff but did say that the contract demands were an offseason thing, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "If somebody wasn't committed, they wouldn't be here," Taylor added. Rapoport concluded that Taylor "sounded like someone who is ready to play this week." We just added Taylor to the Week 5 RB Rankings.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor's ankle is no longer an issue, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He's healthy," Rapoport said. "I think he probably would have been healthy maybe two weeks ago." Rapoport adds, though, that it's still unclear whether Taylor will play vs. the Titans this weekend. That'll come down to whether he's mentally and physically ready -- and whether Taylor still needs demands met before suiting up for the Colts. Stay tuned.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor will practice on Wednesday, HC Shane Steichen said. Steichen didn't ruled out Taylor playing against the Titans this weekend, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder, adding that the decision will come down to how ready Taylor looks in practice. We'll keep you updated on Taylor's status throughout the week.

Colts RB Zack Moss led the backfield touches by a wide margin with 18 attempts for 70 rushing yards in Week 4 vs. the Rams. Teammate Trey Sermon played some, logging 3 carries for 7 yards, but was otherwise an afterthought. Moss has been a fun story for fantasy, but Week 5 marks the point in time when Jonathan Taylor is eligible to return from IR. There haven’t seemed to be any positive developments regarding Taylor’s request for a long-term deal or any progress on a trade, so it’s safe to assume that he’ll be the lead back next week vs. the Titans. It’ll be worth keeping track of news this week in case anything happens, however.

The Colts are expected to open the 21-day practice window for RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle) this coming week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's the first step to Taylor getting back on the field after he opened the season on the PUP list. Rapoport doesn't say, though, whether Taylor will actually practice with the team this week. Or whether he'll play in a game for the Colts. Taylor is still looking for a new contract, per Rapoport, and there have been no recent trade talks surrounding the star back. Stay tuned.

Colts RB Jonathan Taylor recently posted this workout video to Instagram. “He looks great," Colts RB coach DeAndre Smith said. "And I can’t wait to actually physically get a chance to work with him, see him move around, see that speed and feel that speed." Taylor is eligible to come off IR on Monday, and his surgically repaired ankle is no longer an issue by all accounts. Now we'll see whether Taylor and the Colts can come to an agreement on his contact, or if Taylor goes back on the trade block.
