Insider Mike Garafolo hears that an MRI on Bills RB LeSean McCoy's bum hamstring showed a new tear that will take 3-4 weeks to fully heal.  Buffalo has a Week 8 bye, so McCoy could be sidelined until the following week.  Rookie Karlos Williams will be a must-start as long as McCoy is out.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is out for Sunday’s game against the Giants. He didn’t practice all week and reportedly might miss Week 5, too. Shady’s absence leaves impressive rookie Karlos Williams as Buffalo’s lead back. He’s a borderline RB1 vs. a defense the Bills should be able to move the ball on.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it wouldn’t be a “surprise” if Bills RB LeSean McCoy sits out Week 5, too. Hamstring injuries can be tricky, and the Bills want to make sure their stud RB is right long term. They can also afford for him to miss time because of Karlos Williams’ quick emergence. Of course, the rookie should be in all fantasy lineups this week vs. the Giants.

Bills HC Rex Ryan confirmed that it "doesn't look good" for RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) to play against the Giants this weekend.  All signs point to Shady sitting out at least 1 game to get that hammy right.  That'll give RB Karlos Williams his 1st career start.  The rookie has averaged 7.8 yards per carry so far and scored in each of Buffalo's first 3 games.  Looking at 15+ carries this Sunday, he's a borderline RB1.

NFL Network's Rand Getlin hears that Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is "unlikely" to play against the Giants on Sunday.  Shady's Week 4 outlook has gotten progressively worse over the past 24 hours.  It sounds like Buffalo is ready to sideline him to get that hamstring back to 100%.  That means impressive rookie Karlos Williams will serve as the Bills' lead back vs. the G-Men.  He'll be a borderline RB1 if McCoy is out.

Bills HC Rex Ryan said after Sunday's win that he wouldn't sit RB LeSean McCoy to rest his bum hamstring.  Ryan changed his tune on Monday.  "I'll let our doctors and trainers look at that and they'll tell me," he said.  We'll keep a close eye on the situation this week.  If McCoy is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, impressive rookie Karlos Williams would be a borderline RB1.

Contradicting a previous item, Bills HC Rex Ryan said after Sunday's win over Miami that RB LeSean McCoy is playing on "one and a half legs," according to Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News. Ryan reportedly added that McCoy is dealing with significant pain in his troublesome hamstring. That would explain his slow start, as well as Karlos Williams' 1-carry edge against the Dolphins. It's worth noting that Ryan had previously exuded almost nothing but confidence for McCoy's health status. Perhaps we'll see more of a timeshare in the coming weeks, especially after Williams' big Week 3. Ryan said the team hasn't considered sitting McCoy to get him back to 100%, but McCoy was more non-committal. "We got to look at everything," he said. "We'll figure it out. I'm not sure right now. I don't have a definite answer. We'll see what's going on." It's a situation to watch, and Williams should be picked up in any fantasy football league of at least moderate depth. If you own McCoy and someone else owns Williams, consider checking on the trade price for the rookie.

Bills beat writer Joe Buscaglia notes that RB LeSean McCoy, “ran with the type of explosion people have grown accustomed to” in Sunday’s loss to New England. The numbers back that up, as Shady gained 89 yards on 15 carries (5.93 YPC). The problem is that he was vultured again at the goal line, this time by Karlos Williams from 2 yards out. We’ll see if that trend continues, but for now, a healthy Shady should remain locked into fantasy lineups.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is active for today’s game against the Patriots. He experienced tightness in that hammy on Thursday but was able to put in a limited practice on Friday. It’s tough to believe that Shady will at at 100% today, though, and there’s always the chance of an in-game aggravation. McCoy belongs in season-long lineups but probably isn’t worth gambling on in DFS.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) will play against the Patriots today.  We always expected him to suit up for an important early-season showdown.  But unless Buffalo is playing injury-report games, Shady won't be at 100% and will be at risk of an in-game aggravation.  You'd need to be stacked at RB to bench him in season-long leagues, but we'd avoid McCoy in DFS this week.

The Bills list RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) as questionable for this weekend's game against the Patriots.  He popped up on Thursday's injury report as limited after he experienced tightness in that hammy.  McCoy was limited again on Friday, and HC Rex Ryan admitted that there's a "little bit of concern" about his Week 2 availability.  We're guessing that McCoy will suit up, but we'll find out for sure by noon ET on Sunday.  The hamstring issue will make him a risk/reward fantasy play for the 2nd straight week.

After being limited on Thursday with hamstring tightness, Bills RB LeSean McCoy was on the field for the start of Friday's session.  "Doesn't seem at all limited in early drills," insider Vic Carucci tweeted.  We'll get McCoy's official Week 2 injury designation this afternoon, but it sounds like he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice with a hamstring issue.  HC Rex Ryan said Shady was "a little tight and a little sore," and added that he "hopes" McCoy plays this weekend.  It's unclear if this is the same hammy that he injured last month, but it's certainly a situation to track closely leading up to Sunday's game.  If McCoy can't play against the Patriots, rookie Karlos Williams would serve as Buffalo's lead back.

10:31am EDT 9/13/15

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is officially active for today’s game against the Colts. NFL Network’s Albert Breer reported earlier this morning that Shady will see the “bulk” of the backfield touches. Get him in your fantasy lineup in a juicy matchup.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports that the Bills plan to give RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) "close" to a full workload against the Colts today.  Shady is still at risk of an in-game setback.  But if that hammy holds up, he's a good bet for 20+ touches.  McCoy is a must-start in season-long leagues and an interesting tournament play on FanDuel.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is listed as probable for Sunday’s game against the Colts after putting in a full week of practice. He avoided a setback but admitted earlier in the week that he’s still not at 100%. That obviously adds risk to his Week 1 outlook. But McCoy’s potential volume in a plus matchup make him a must-start in season-long leagues and an interesting DFS tournament play.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) admitted after Wednesday's practice that he's still not "exactly 100%, but I feel good enough to go out there & compete.”  Hamstring injuries are notoriously susceptible to aggravation, which adds risk to McCoy's Week 1 outlook.  It's also possible that Buffalo has him on some sort of touch count.  Still, you'd need to be stacked at RB to consider benching Shady in a tasty matchup against the Colts.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is "ready to roll" for Sunday's season opener against the Colts, according to HC Rex Ryan.  McCoy will practice in full on Wednesday.  There's still some risk of a setback here, and we can't be completely certain that McCoy will handle a full workload.  But he has the potential to see 20+ touches in a plus matchup.  He's a must-start in season-long leagues and an intriguing tournament play on FanDuel.

Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) returned to individual drills on Friday, according to insider Mike Rodak.  That seems to give him a good shot to be ready for the season opener in 9 days.  We'll continue to keep a close eye on Shady, though.  How much he's able to do in practice next week will tell us how reliable a Week 1 fantasy play he'll be.  RB Karlos Williams (undisclosed) also returned to individual drills on Friday.

The Bills are concerned that RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) might not be "fully ready" for Week 1, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.  That's not a major surprise considering the hamstring injury seemed relatively severe from the start.  "It's way too early to say whether (McCoy) will play or not," a Bills source told Anderson.  "He is doing a little bit more every day. But hell yes, I'm concerned about that. I can't say for sure he's going to be with us Week 1. I can't say that at all. It will take everything we got just to get him ready for game day, and then we get to game day (there's) no way he can be in great football shape. So I think he will be on a pitch count, I think at the very best."  We'll keep a close eye on Shady in the week leading up to next Sunday's opener against the Colts.  If he doesn't put in at least 1 full practice, though, he'll be a risky fantasy play.  The depth chart behind McCoy is murky, with Karlos Williams, Boobie Dixon and Bryce Brown in the mix.
