Jags TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) is unsure if he’ll practice this week, per beat writer Ryan O’Halloran.  Lewis didn’t suit up in Week 1, and the Jags badly missed him.  An excellent blocker with red zone ability, his health is vital to the Jags assembling a respectable NFL offense.  Still, even if Lewis returns this week, he’s a poor bet for fantasy value.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis has been ruled out for Week 1.  He aggravated a calf injury on Wednesday and was unable to practice on Thursday or Friday.  A low-upside TE2 when he's healthy, Lewis is barely worth rostering in fantasy right now.

After exiting Wednesday's practice early with calf trouble, Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis was held out altogether on Thursday.  This calf has been bothering him for a few weeks now.  His Week 1 status is uncertain, but Lewis shouldn't be in your fantasy lineup anyways.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis is dealing with a strained left calf.  It's unclear when the injury occurred, but Lewis missed the 2nd preseason game and won't play in the 3rd tonight.  He caught 2 balls for 15 yards in the 1st exhibition.  Lewis looked like an intriguing TE2 back in the spring, when the Jags were talking about getting him more involved in the passing game.  But his shine has worn off since.  We'd rather roll the dice on a guy like Tyler Eifert or Zach Sudfeld as a fantasy backup.

Jacksonville's new coaching staff is looking to get TE Marcedes Lewis more involved in the passing game this year.  "We need him to be more than just a blocker," OC Jedd Fisch said. "We're trying to use this camp to see what he does best. There's a lot of positives. He's 6'6 and 260 pounds. When you have a guy like that, you have to find ways to get him the ball." Beat writer Ryan O'Halloran said earlier this offseason that Lewis' pass-catching role would grow this year, but this is the 1st time we've heard it straight from the team.  Lewis was fantasy's 4th-best TE back in 2010 (on the strength of 10 TDs).  He plummeted to 33rd the following year and was 18th in 2012.  He's capable of a top-15 finish this season.  Lewis is only 28 and remains a big, capable pass-catcher.  He's being completely ignored in fantasy drafts, with an ADP outside the first 16 rounds.  We like him as a TE2 for your fantasy squad.

According to insider Ryan O'Halloran, the Jaguars' new coaching staff is high on TE Marcedes Lewis.  "The feeling inside the building is he was underused last year," O'Halloran writes.  Lewis saw just 77 targets in 2012.  That ranked 21st among TEs and was 10 fewer than he averaged over the previous 2 seasons.  It sounds like the Jags want to get Lewis more involved in the passing game going forward.  That's a start, but he'll need better QB play to move back into fantasy-starter territory.

11:40am EST 12/24/11

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (hamstring) is active for today's game against the Titans.  At less than 100%, he's not a recommended fantasy starter.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (hamstring) is considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Titans.  He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday, though, and we'd expect him to be active this weekend.  Lewis has posted 45+ yards in 4 of his last 7 games, but he's just a TE2 at less than 100%.

11:59am EST 12/11/11

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (ankle) is active for today's game against the Bucs.  He's been a bit more productive of late but still hasn't scored all year.  Lewis is just a low-end TE2.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (ankle) practiced all week and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Bucs.  The injury shouldn't be a factor, but Lewis remains an unexciting TE2 option.

12:30am EST 12/6/11

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis suffered an ankle injury in the 4th quarter of Monday night's game against the Chargers.  He finished with 3 catches for 27 yards -- his 8th game this season under 40 yards.  Lewis isn't worth a roster spot in redraft leagues.

11:42am EDT 9/25/11

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) is active for today's game against the Panthers.  But he also admitted to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer that he's not at 100%.  Lewis shouldn't be in fantasy lineups this week.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) practiced all week and is listed as probable for Week 3. He’ll play against the Panthers on Sunday but is a shaky fantasy option as the team transitions to QB Blaine Gabbert.

After being limited on Wednesday, Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) put in a full workout on Thursday.  He'll play against the Panthers on Sunday, but we'd hold off on using him in fantasy until we see how this offense operates with Blaine Gabbert at the controls.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) returned to practice on Wednesday.  It's unclear how much work he got in, and we still wouldn't consider him a lock for Week 3.  This is obviously a step in the right direction though.  Check back for another update Thursday.

Jaguars beat writer Tania Ganguli hears that QB Blaine Gabbert will start this Sunday's game against the Panthers.  HC Jack Del Rio has yet to make an official announcement, but the report makes sense.  Gabbert gives Jacksonville just as good a chance to win -- and maybe better -- as QB Luke McCown.  Gabbert won't be a fantasy option, but the move doesn't do anything to hurt the fantasy values of guys like WR Mike Thomas or TE Marcedes Lewis.

11:30am EDT 9/18/11

As expected, Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) is inactive for today's game against the Jets.  TE Zach Miller will start in his place.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) tried to practice Friday but was still clearly at less than 100%.  He's listed as doubtful and won't play against the Jets on Sunday.  It'll give us a chance to see TE Zach Miller, a super-talented but injury-prone player.  Keep an eye on him, but he's not a fantasy option just yet.

Jaguars beat writer Tania Ganguli spotted TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) on the practice field today.  It's a good sign after Lewis missed both Wednesday and Thursday's workout.  Of course, this doesn't guarantee that he'll play against the Jets this Sunday.  We'll update his status later today.

Jaguars TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) was unable to practice Wednesday.  At best, he's looking like a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Jets.  Look for other options this week.
