Bears OLB Pernell McPhee (knee) is active for today's game against the Falcons. He's not much of an IDP option, though, and Chicago ranks among the weakest team D plays in Week 1. The Bears will be without CB Prince Amukamara (ankle) who entered the weekend doubtful and has missed a lot of time this summer.

Giants CB Prince Amukamara returned to the practice field Monday after missing 5 games with a pectoral tear. "I feel like I'm ready to play four quarters of a football game," he said afterward, according to ESPN.com. "I feel 100 percent. I'm ready to go." The nature of the injury should mean that Amukamara was able to stay up on his conditioning while he was out, and he still carries a top-5 scoring average among fantasy DBs for the season -- depending on your format. The Sunday matchup with Washington presents significant upside and makes Amukamara an instant IDP starter upon his return.

The Giants have ruled CB Prince Amukamara (pectorals) and MLB Jon Beason (ankle/knee) out for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. Their replacements aren't worth IDP mention.

Giants HC Tom Coughlin told reporters Thursday that CB Prince Amukamara will miss 2-4 weeks because of a pectoral injury. ESPN's Josina Anderson reported that the CB suffered a partial tear. We'll see how quickly he can recover, but losing Amukamara takes a potential DB starter away from IDP folks in fantasy this weekend and damages a Giants pass D that has already ranked among the league's worst. Good news for Eagles QB Sam Bradford and his fantasy owners.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports that Giants CB Prince Amukamara looks iffy for Monday night's visit to Philadelphia because of the pectoral injury he suffered in the win over the Niners. Amukamara returned to that game after getting hurt and "didn't indicate any problems" afterward, according to Graziano. We'll see how his participation is this week. Amukamara will carry IDP-starter appeal if he's ready to go.

ESPN reports that Giants CB Prince Amukamara suffered a torn biceps in the loss to the Colts. That almost certainly ends the corner's season. His injury takes away a key fantasy DB and also the top cover man away from the Giants' secondary. The New York team D already carried little fantasy intrigue and just got even less attractive.

The Giants corner has ranked among the steadier and top-scoring DB options in fantasy.

Giants CB Prince Amukamara left Saturday night's preseason game with a groin strain.  It's not yet clear how long the injury might keep him out.  The scenario's all too familiar, however, for a player who lost 9 games as a rookie in 2011 to a broken foot and then 3 more in 2012 to ankle hamstring and knee trouble.  Amukamara bounced back to start a full 16 last year and delivered for both the Giants and fantasy owners.  He has reportedly enjoyed a good training camp and should only be helped by the addition of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie at the other corner.  If Amukamara returns soon and avoids setbacks, he'll make for a solid IDP starter, especially if your league uses CB-specific slots.  If he misses significant time, CBs Walter Thurmond or Trumaine McBride would be the likeliest replacements.

CB Prince Amukamara broke a bone in his left foot Saturday. The Giants aren't yet sure how long he'll be out. Even if he manages to return in time for the regular season, though, this is obviously a tough blow for the rookie's starting changes. It basically guarantees that CB Terrell Thomas will hold onto the starting job, though. That'll keep Thomas a top IDP option among DBs.

Giants 1st-round pick CB Prince Amukamara garnered the 3rd-best rating among rookies in Madden '12. That might just seem like a fun, relatively worthless tidbit.  But IDP owners should take note as they consider drafting Terrell Thomas. The CB has been a fantasy beast the past 2 years but could be overvalued in 2011. CB tends to be one of the easiest positions for a rookie to pick up. If Amukamara can get quickly up to speed, he could displace Thomas in the lineup early this season. That wouldn't kill Thomas' fantasy value. Teams put 3-CB packages on the field often, and covering slot receivers would help Thomas' tackle numbers. It's enough to make you think twice about drafting him 1st at the position, though.
