RB Tarik Cohen ruptured his Achilles while working out on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. That figures to cost Cohen, who's currently unsigned, the entire 2022 season. Cohen hasn't played since tearing an ACL in September of 2020. He turns 27 in July and looks like a long shot to make a meaningful fantasy contribution again.

Free agent RB Tarik Cohen suffered an injury while working out in a video streamed live on Instagram. Cohen grabbed his right Achilles upon going down, and the injury appeared serious. We’ll update you when we learn more, but we truly hope that Cohen dodged a bullet here. He missed all of 2021 and most of 2020 with a knee injury.

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Cohen tore his Achilles.

The Bears are releasing RB Tarik Cohen with an injury designation, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Cohen still isn't able to pass a physical after tearing an ACL in September 2020. We'll see when Cohen is medically cleared and then where he signs, but he's not worth a look in early best-ball drafts.

Bears RB David Montgomery is expected to miss 4-5 weeks with a sprained knee, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. Chicago has a Week 10 bye, so it's possible that we don't see Montgomery again until Week 11. He was looking like a high-end RB2 before going down, so we'd try to keep him stashed on fantasy benches. Damien Williams is set to take over as Chicago's lead back, assuming his quad injury doesn't keep him out. Rookie Khalil Herbert is now #2 on the depth chart. Remember, too, that RB Tarik Cohen (ACL) is eligible to come off the PUP list in Week 7.

The Bears placed RB Tarik Cohen on reserve/PUP. In other words, he’ll miss at least the first 6 games of the season. Chicago will move forward with David Montgomery and Damien Williams as the top-2 RBs. Montgomery should dominate the rushing work, with Williams acting as a change-of-pace/receiving back. Montgomery is in play as a mid-to-late Round 3 pick. Williams is a worthy late-round flier.

Bears HC Matt Nagy suggested Tuesday that RB Tarik Cohen is more "weeks away" than "days away" from returning from last September's torn ACL. Nagy added, "I don’t want to put a timeline (on it) ... It’s all going to be day-by-day on how much growth he has or improvement." We're still over 5 weeks away from Chicago's season opener. But it's beginning to look like Cohen will at least be limited to start the season -- if he's out there at all. He's nothing more than a late-round stab in PPR drafts right now. RB David Montgomery would get a boost if Cohen isn't ready come Week 1.

The Bears have placed RB Tarik Cohen on the active PUP list to start training camp. Cohen is still working back from last September's torn ACL and was reportedly hobbled during spring workouts. We're guessing he'll be available for the start of this season -- but it's certainly not a lock. We'll continue to monitor his progress. Cohen's absence would free up targets for RB David Montgomery. Chicago also added RB Damien Williams this offseason.

The Bears have agreed to a 1-year deal with RB Damien Williams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 29-year-old (as of April 3) spent 2 seasons with the Chiefs before opting out of 2020 over COVID concerns. Williams shined over late-season stretches in both of those years but totaled just 161 regular-season carries and 53 receptions over those 2 campaigns. He previously played under new Bears OC Bill Lazor in Miami but totaled a mere 51 rushes and 60 targets over those 2 shared seasons. Williams will join a Chicago backfield that finds David Montgomery heading into his 3rd season and coming off a torrid fantasy finish to 2020, plus Tarik Cohen coming off a September ACL tear. We'll see how all these pieces fit together, but we don't head toward 2021 with big expectations for the former Chief.

Bears HC Matt Nagy announced Monday that RB Tarik Cohen has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the 2020 season. He ran 54 pass routes and garnered 9 targets through 3 games. Most of that work now figures to go to RB David Montgomery.

The Bears "fear" a torn ACL for RB Tarik Cohen, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. These reports almost always end up being confirmed, so expect Cohen to miss the rest of the season. That should mean more pass-catching work for RB David Montgomery. Cordarrelle Patterson also becomes a potential deep-league stash. He's tallied 15 carries and 4 catches through 3 games.

Bears RB Tarik Cohen was knocked out of Sunday's game vs. the Falcons with a knee injury. We'll look for an update on the severity.

The Bears and RB Tarik Cohen agreed late Saturday to a 3-year extension worth $17.25 million in new money, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Looks like we can count on at least a couple more years of ho-hum PPR production.

Bears RB David Montgomery is expected to play against the Lions today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Montgomery is listed as questionable with his groin injury, but Rapoport reports that the Bears plan to give him a full workload. The groin issue still makes us a bit nervous, but it's certainly an upside matchup if Montgomery is near full health. Montgomery's availability chips away at RB Tarik Cohen's fantasy value. Cordarrelle Patterson (questionable, knee) will also play, according to Rapoport.

Bears RB David Montgomery is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with his groin injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Chicago's opener is 17 days away. So Montgomery has a shot to be ready for that one -- although it's more likely that he misses the first game or 2. He'll return as the Bears' clear lead ball-carrier and is still worth drafting in RB3 range. We'll see if the team adds a RB in the coming days. If not, it'll be Tarik Cohen, Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce in the backfield.

Bears RB David Montgomery was carted off the practice field on Wednesday after suffering a non-contact injury to his left leg. Sirius' Adam Caplan hears that the team does not believe the injury is to Montgomery's knee. Still, this sounds like a potentially serious issue. Chicago doesn't have a viable replacement for Montgomery on the roster, with the diminutive Tarik Cohen, Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce next up on the depth chart. Cordarrelle Patterson has reportedly been taking reps at RB throughout training camp but wouldn't be a full-time replacement. Free-agent RB Devonta Freeman would make sense for Chicago if Montgomery is forced to miss a bunch of time.

Bears RB David Montgomery is headed for a game-time decision for tonight's game against the Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Montgomery missed practice Thursday with his ankle sprain before returning to a limited Friday workout. The late kick obviously makes him risky to wait on for fantasy football lineups. If you need to wait for Montgomery, then check for Rams, Chiefs or Chargers options on the waiver wire as insurance. If Montgomery doesn't play, Tarik Cohen could be in for a big volume boost.

Bears RB David Montgomery (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Rams. He “lightly rolled” his ankle on Wednesday, per HC Matt Nagy, didn’t practice on Thursday and was limited on Friday. The late kickoff puts fantasy owners in a tough spot here. Hopefully we get an update on Montgomery Sunday morning. His absence would leave Chicago’s backfield to Tarik Cohen and Ryan Nall.
