Bryce Young Sets Carolina Franchise Passing Record In OT Win

The Atlanta Falcons entered Week 11 allowing the fewest passing yards in the league, but Carolina QB Bryce Young set a franchise record with 448 passing yards and threw 3 TDs to lead the Panthers to a 30-27 overtime win. Young overcame an early ankle injury to lead his team back from a 21-10 deficit to sweep the Falcons and hand Atlanta their fifth consecutive loss.

Bryce Young Back For Week 9

Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) put in a full week of practice and is off the final injury report. He’ll start Sunday’s game vs. the Packers but is a bottom-barrel QB2 with Carolina implied for only 15 points.

        Bryce Young A Full-Go Wednesday

Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. QB Andy Dalton, meanwhile, was sidelined with a thumb injury. Young is clearly on track to be back under center for Carolina this weekend after Dalton's Week 8 turd. Young is only in play in 2-QB and Superflex leagues against a tough Packers pass defense.

        Bryce Young Hurts Ankle

Panthers QB Bryce Young suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Jets. He's officially questionable to return and has been replaced by QB Andy Dalton. We'll update Young's status when we know more.

Update: Young has been ruled out.

        Panthers Losing Two Starting Linemen

The Panthers are losing a pair of starting offensive linemen to extended injuries. RG Robert Hunt suffered a torn biceps in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. He'll have surgery and head to IR, according to ESPN's David Newton. That almost certainly will end Hunt's season. C Austin Corbett tore the MCL in his left knee. Newton reports that Corbett will also head to IR but could be designated to return.

        Andy Dalton INACTIVE

Panthers QB Andy Dalton (thumb) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Broncos. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said this morning that the thumb injury could also cost Dalton Week 9. QB Bryce Young starts today in an impossible spot against a strong Denver defense and without WRs Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen.

Xavier Legette lands in Carolina after move up

The Panthers traded up one spot to grab South Carolina WR Xavier Legette with the final pick of Round 1. Legette is one of the toughest evaluations in this year’s WR class. He did next to nothing over his first four college seasons, totaling just 42 catches. That stretch included a 2020 hamstring injury and a 2021 motorcycle accident – all after Legette spent his senior year of high school playing QB. Then he came out of nowhere for a huge 2023 campaign. Legette’s 1,255 receiving yards ranked eighth in the country. He accounted for 37.6% of South Carolina’s receiving yards and 33.3% of the receiving TDs. And he ranked top-16 among 286 qualifying WRs in both yards per route and Pro Football Focus receiving grade. Then Legette smashed the Combine, recording a 4.39-second 40 time and 40-inch vertical at 6’1, 221 pounds to earn a 9.90 Relative Athletic Score. That elite combination of size and speed pops off the tape. Legette can dominate on deep balls and after the catch. He also has a big catch radius and reliable hands. Legette is relatively raw in the route-running department, though, and isn’t the most agile player. It’s fair to wonder how much more room he has to grow considering he turned 23 in January. Legette lands in an offense with decent opportunity, but we wouldn't bet on big target share in 2024. Carolina acquired WR Diontae Johnson to boost a receiving corps that Adam Thielen led in 2023. Check our rookie rankings to see where Xavier Legette settles.

Bryce Young ready for Week 4

Panthers QB Bryce Young (ankle) put in a full week of practice and isn't listed on the final injury report. He'll be back under center for Sunday's game vs. the Vikings. Young has mustered just 4.2 yards per attempt so far this season and is just a low-end QB2 for Week 4, despite the plus matchup. Consider Young a slight downgrade from QB Andy Dalton for Carolina's pass catchers.

Bryce Young trending toward Week 4 return

Panthers QB Bryce Young is returning to practice Wednesday after missing Week 3 with an ankle injury. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that it appears Young "has a good shot to return to action" for Sunday's game against the Vikings. We wouldn't plan to use Young outside of deep superflex leagues -- and would even try to lean away from him there. Young averaged just 4.2 yards per pass attempt across the first two games, with a 2.8% TD rate that matched his INT rate. If Young can't play, Andy Dalton would be at least a little more attractive. He threw for 361 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs at Seattle last week.

Bryce Young could also miss Week 4

The Athletic's Joe Person writes that the Panthers don't expect QB Bryce Young to miss "more than a game or two" with his ankle injury. We already know that the rookie will miss Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks, and it sounds like there's a chance he also misses Week 4's meeting with the Vikings. We'll keep you updated on his recovery. QB Andy Dalton is a capable backup who might even prove to be a short-term upgrade over Young for this Panthers offense.

        Bryce Young has ankle injury

Panthers QB Bryce Young missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweets that Young got the ankle "checked out" after Monday night's loss to the Saints. We'll keep an eye on the rookie's status over the next few days, but hopefully he wasn't in your Week 3 plans. The Panthers on Wednesday added QB Jake Luton to their practice squad, but QB Andy Dalton would get the Week 3 start if Young is out.
