Pittsburgh Steelers Injury Updates

Steelers ILB Mark Barron left Sunday's game early with a hamstring injury. We'll see about his availability for the Week 6 visit to the Chargers. Barron's absence helped Vince Williams stay on the field long enough to collect a team-high 9 tackles, a sack and a pass breakup. Williams would likely start in Barron's place if te latter can't go next Sunday night.

The Dolphins traded DB Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Steelers on Monday for a 2020 first-round pick, according to multiple reports. Fitzpatrick complained openly about the new Miami coaching staff playing him out of position at SS. He'll join a Pittsburgh secondary with a 2018 first-round pick, Terrell Edmunds, starting at that spot. We'll see exactly what the Steelers have planned for Fitzpatrick, who boasts uncommon versatility. Perhaps Fitzpatrick's departure will get veteran S Reshad Jones back to full playing time. Jones missed Week 2 with an ankle injury.

Steelers S Sean Davis is doubtful for Sunday night's opener at New England because of an ankle injury. That means we should all treat him as out, given there are only 2 more games beyond his in Week 1.

The Steelers have ruled DE Stephon Tuitt out for Sunday's game at Jacksonville with an elbow injury. We'll see about his availability for the Week 12 trip to Denver.

Steelers LB Vince Williams is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Falcons after missing practice all week with a hamstring injury.

Steelers S Morgan Burnett is inactive for tonight’s game because of a groin injury.

The Steelers have ruled OLB T.J. Watt out for Sunday's game against the Bears. Watt said after leaving the Vikings game early that his groin injury wasn't serious, but it looks more significant than he let on.

Steelers OLB T.J. Watt suffered a groin injury in Sunday's win over the Vikings. He said afterward that he doesn't think it's bad and isn't worried but that we'll know more over the next day or 2, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt is out for today's game against the Vikings. Pittsburgh had hoped he'd be able to play after suffering a biceps injury in Week 1. The questionable tag indicates Tuitt has a solid chance of returning for Week 3.

The Steelers consider DE Stephon Tuitt "week to week" with a left biceps injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's fairly good news, considering the team reportedly feared Sunday night that Tuitt tore the muscle. We'll see if the recently extended DE can make it back for Week 3.

Steelers DE Stephon Tuitt left in the 1st quarter of Sunday's win over the Browns with a left arm injury. He did not return. HC Mike Tomlin called it a biceps injury after the game. Tuitt will seek further evaluation Sunday night or Monday. We'll await the official diagnosis.

Steelers OLB Bud Dupree is out for today's opener against the Browns. He suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday's practice and then missed Friday's workout. Anthony Chickillo and James Harrison should take over the vacated snaps, with T.J. Watt starting on the other side. The Pittsburgh team D would present more sack upside with a healthy Dupree, but losing him doesn't significantly alter a positive fantasy outlook against Cleveland rookie QB Deshone Kizer.

Steelers OLB Bud Dupree is questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns. He suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday's practice and then missed Friday's workout. His backup, Anthony Chickillo, said he expects Dupree to be able to play Sunday. We'll check his status when the inactives come out.

Steelers LB Ryan Shazier made it through a full practice Friday for the 1st time in a little more than 2 weeks, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Shazier initially left practice in the 1st week of training camp with what was thought to be a minor hamstring pull. But multiple attempts to return since then found him leaving early. “It felt great,” he said after Friday's practice. “I'm happy to be back in the mix … and it was good to be running around and just seeing football from inside my helmet instead of from the sideline.” Shazier, who has played in just 34 of a possible 48 games over 3 NFL seasons, said he has yet to make a tackle in camp practice. There's time to get ready for the opener if he can avoid further setbacks, but it's a worrisome situation for a guy with breakout talent. Keep his durability risk in mind when drafting your IDP starters, but finding insurance/replacements at LB isn't hard in most fantasy football leagues.

The Steelers have activated OLB Bud Dupree from the PUP list. A groin injury cost him the 1st 9 games, but the 2nd-year pass rusher is on the active roster for Sunday's trip to Cleveland. We'll see what kind of role he's coming back to, though he'll likely work into a rotation. Dupree carries more pass-rushing upside than any other OLB on Pittsburgh's roster but is more of a long-term IDP option than a strong candidate for 2016 value.

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. That takes a key pass rusher and run defender out of an already-shaky defense. When Heyward missed 2 games with a hamstring injury earlier this season, the Steelers allowed Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi the 1st of his 200-yard games and then a 127-2 rushing line to LeGarrette Blount. So Heyward's latest departure is good news for Browns RB Isaiah Crowell (who unfortunately still has to deal with playing in the Browns offense).

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward took all reps with the 1st team in Monday's return from the Week 8 bye, according to Scout's Jim Wexell. Heyward missed the past 2 games with a hamstring injury but seems to be on track to play at Baltimore this Sunday. That would return an IDP starting option to fantasy football owners and re-install a key piece to a struggling Pittsburgh defense. Heyward's integral to both the pass rush and run D for the Steelers.

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward will miss at least the next 2 games with a hamstring injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Heyward suffered the injury early in Sunday's win over the Jets to the same left leg in which he suffered a high ankle sprain in August. The injuries are reportedly not related, however. Pittsburgh plays at Miami in Week 6 and then will face the Patriots back home in Week 7. A Week 8 bye gives hope that Heyward won't miss any further contests, but we'll have to check in as that time approaches. Besides removing a DL option from IDP leagues. Heyward's absence deprives an up-and-down Steelers D of arguably it's best player. There's still upside in the matchup with Miami, but Pittsburgh will make for a risky team-D play.

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward left in the 1st quarter of Sunday's win over the Jets with a right hamstring injury. He went for an MRI before the end of the game, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, though the team has yet release any results. We'll keep an eye on Heyward's status heading into Week 6 (and beyond).

The Steelers have ruled LB Ryan Shazier out for the 2nd straight game with a knee injury. That means LB Vince Williams will start in his place again after racking up 15 tackles in last week's win over the Chiefs.. We've added Williams to the Week 5 LB rankings.
