The Bills have announced a four-year extension for WR Khalil Shakir. The pact locks him in through 2029. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Shakir will get "up to" $60.2 million, including $32 million guaranteed.
Shakir dramatically improved his total production across categories in 2024, despite only a small uptick in playing time:
Shakir's 100 targets (in 15 games) easily led all Bills. But he also finished a mere 36th among all WRs in target share (adjusted for games played) and 38th in fantasy points per game.
That's reason to be wary if Shakir were to start climbing too high in ADP. Fortunately, he's going just 44th among WRs in early Underdog Fantasy ADP (half-PPR) and WR45 in Drafters best ball drafts (full PPR).
So the price remains OK, especially for best ball purposes -- and especially for rosters that already have QB Josh Allen.
Locking in with Allen through 2029 (assuming the QB remains under contract through then, of course) can't hurt Shakir. Just be careful about projecting role growth for the WR.
Buffalo seems pretty comfy with Shakir's 2024 role as primary slot WR -- with some outside work as well (26.9% in 2024).
Shakir's deal is bad news for WR Curtis Samuel, who signed a three-year, $24 million pact as a free agent last offseason.
Samuel's playing time increased over the second half of last season, but it's tough to see much growth beyond that. And he finished the year with just three games of more than 3 receptions.
The main reason to pass on the star tight end in your fantasy football draft has nothing to do with him. But you might want to target these other Raiders.
